Should games have embedded instructions?

Yes, I want instructions to know what I am doing.

No, instructions are for paper manuals. I want extras.

Almost all of the games I had for my VIC were pirate copies without instructions and I don't remember having any problem playing them anyway. Games for the unexpanded VIC seldom get complicated enough to need instructions. That's part of what I like about them.

To be specific, I am talking about "in-game" instructions which would take away precious memory from the game.

I guess that's why quite a lot of commercial unexpanded games back in the day had one load for the instructions, and then a load for the main game.
