My non-VIC collection

Post by carlsson »

Here is a list of my current (but relatively small) collection, excluding the VIC-20's. Although not all machines yet have arrived, all are paid for. Everything is loose (without box) unless otherwise indicated. I didn't bother to list PC compatibles.

1x C64 breadbox (boxed, but currently missing a motherboard)
1x C64C (boxed) + 2x 1541-II (one boxed)
1x C128 (boxed w/o polys)
1x CBM 620 (256K CBM-II low profile) + 1x 8250LP etc
1x Amiga 1200 w/ 50 MHz '030 and HDD (boxed)
1x Acorn Electron (polys but no sleeve)
1x Acorn BBC Model B (no DFS or disk drives)
1x Acorn BBC Master 128 + 5.25" disk drive
1x Acorn BBC Master Compact + 3.5" disk drive
1x Atari 800XL + 1x 1050
1x Comx 35 (almost new in box)
1x Philips VG-8235 (MSX2)
1x ZX Spectrum 48K

Ayep.. I think that's it. Despite that I live on my own in 64 m², it is beginning to fill out a bit too much. For example, I need another chest of drawers to store loose computers in, preferrably one with large drawers. We have some spares ones at work we're going to throw away, I may grab one of those.

I envy that Acorn collection, especially the Master Compact with 3.5" drive....

Surely IKEA has some kind of 'retro-computing fanatic' storage solution for people living in 64m2...? :D

Yeah, the Compact was the first Acorn I bought, almost by mistake. Then I was triggered by a friend who owns a lot of BBC/Electron tapes, and realized the Compact does not have a tape interface anymore. Thus I had to buy some more computers the eBay way. But I only pick those who go cheap. Generally I "only" pay eq. US$75-100 incl. international shipping per loose computer, and I don't put a lot of value to boxes unlike other collectors. Actually, I'm more of a user and developer than a collector.

Cool. To me, that's a bunch of quite unique/rare computers. I have a pretty large collection of computers, and I find it interesting how apart from the 64/64C/128, I don't have any of the same models as you. I assume it's a regional thing. I did have an Amiga 1200, but gave it to a friend.

Nice collection; I'm going to have to trim mine down soon; besides the Vic 20, my "Vintage" collection includes:

1x working boxed C128, in service
1x working breadbin C64
2x parts breadbin C64
2x working 1MB Amiga 500, 1 with box
1x working CD32, in service
1x non-functional boxed C16
1x working ADAM
1x working TRS-80 Model 100
1x working Macintosh Plus
1x working IBM PS/1 Consultant
1x working NCR System 3230
1x working '486 generic clone tower
1x working '386 generic clone tower
1x working '286 motherboard
1x working IBM Aptiva Pentium 90, in service
1x working Atari 2600 VCS, in service
1x working Super Nintendo, in service

I'm thinking of selling off or swapping the ADAM, Model 100, Mac Plus, PS/1 Consultant, and the generic clone towers (the PS/1 and generic clone towers work great with an X1541 cable). I May also sell or swap one A500 (my "Backup" machine) if I get my hands on another Amiga model. I like to swap whenever possible, but any money I make from selling will be reinvested either into my collection or into the Commodore community (both in most cases).

My focus now is refining my Commodore collection; getting my C16 working, having my collection set up and/or displayed in a neat fashion, acquiring accessories for my computers, and rebuilding my software library for these machines.

Zeela, is that continuously updated? Oh well, I can ask you in person tomorrow.

By the way, my exhibit on Retro Gathering will be my Acorn collection + a CBM 710 w/ 2031 disk drive. It reminds me, I have all night to download software to display. Fortunately the 2031 is read compatible with 1541, which is a great thing when you need to download a lot of software.

Yes, it generally works, but there are times it seems to hem and haw quite a bit. It may just be an alignment issue with one of the drives involved, but I thought I read once that there is a *slight* difference between the 1541 and 2031 formats? Good enough, anyway, I guess.

I don't have so much experience yet. I think problems begin when you start to write files from a 2031 onto a 1541 formatted floppy (or vice versa).

I've got one room dedicated to my collection (of about 12 m^2 area) filled with Billy bookcases and it's still way too little for what I own...

To which of course the Vic20 carts get their own space...

I would love to work out a deal (trade for C16/Vic or Paypal) on
your Model 100 items.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Thanks,
Brian

Yupp, it's updated every time I get new stuff or sell off something. The things missing from the list are the computers I got in a huge 30kg package on friday and the computers and pongs I got at Retro Gathering.
I also need to remove almost all of the pongs on the list as I sold them at RG... :)

It was really fun to see your Acorn stuff and to try out the Electron as a gaming machine.

Hopefully your own Electron will arrive soon. I only picked up what I thought were the best games from Trooper, so he still has some crap games for you to pick through at a later time if you want... ;-)

By the way, I picked up an Atari 130XE on the Retro Gathering. It is very small and nice, easily fits into even the smallest desk drawer.

Scored another C128 to add to my collection. Good to have a backup for my main machine.
