More Ebay Changes

Post by Jeff-20 »

They seemed to have removed the "items located near me" feature on ebay. Is this to help with geographical discrimination (non-us bidder restrictions, etc) ?

I hope it's not gone for good, just buried in an Advanced screen. That was a pretty useful feature.

Found lots of goodies nearby and would pick them up on the way home from work. Instant gratification, no shipping charges. Plus, while you're at their house they can try to sell you other things :D

i wonder how effective the local search is though?

i just tested it, knowing that there are vic 20 items up for auction, coming from stittsville, which is certainly not 100km away from my house, yet none of the auction items appeared under the search criteria

Well, the seller has to have entered their location correctly first.

I don't think it's by distance at all, rather it's whether they listed themselves as being in the "Ottawa region" or not.

i would have assumed they would use the seller's valid mailing address.

you can specify via postal code, so it should be able to determine distance.
