After a whole month of owning a VIC-20, I finally got games!

Post by ssjlance »

Well, I've had my VIC-20 since buying it new in the box on November 18 for $20, but I just now got around to buying some games. I picked up 7 games off of eBay, and including the shipping it cost me $15.78 for the lot of them. I got the following 7 games:

SEA WOLF WITH INSTRUCTIONS

SPEEN MATH/BINGO MATH

ADVENTURE LAND

JUPITER LANDER

AVENGER

VOODOO CASTLE

PIN BALL

So, did I get a good deal or was I ripped off?

7 carts for 16$ is little more than 2$ per cart. I think you got a decent deal.

Seawolf is somewhat hard to find, the others are piss common. Not bad price overall including the shipping. Now if you want more games, I've got a ton of them here :p

A lot cheaper than what you would of have paid new back in the day! :>)

It's a good start to a collection and the way postage can be then yes it's a good deal!!

Make sure to put your location in your profile too :D

Awesome, I just wanted to get an opinion from some people who've been into the VIC-20 for a long time.

P.S. Mayhem, what games do you have, and what do you want for them?

Considering the "fun factor", you have a very good selection!

My only consideration is that being in the UK, the postage might not be that cheap to the US. But we'll see. I've got all these spare so far. Well it's almost up to date, I think I may have sold a few since last altering it.

Let me know what you're interested in and I'll price them up. Some are very cheap, some are expensive!

Crap, my internet is acting funny and I can't get the list to open. You mind listing them here or sending them to me in a PM? Iguess it might be a pretty big list, so sending a PM would probably be the better idea.

Well that's a bit tricky cos they are all laid out nicely in a table (showing name, publisher, what media they are on, whether they have box and manual etc). I'll see what I can do. Strange that you can't just click on the link and have it appear in a new browser window. You sure you not got a pop-up blocker on or something?

Nevermind, I got it working. My dad was downloading a movie in the next room and the router couldn't output strong enough of a signal. The movie is now finished, do the internet works fine now.

I guess of all the extras that you have, I would like:
Clowns
Omega Race
Sargon 2 Chess

Any other suggestions of the ones in there? All these are pretty common, if I'm correct.

P.S. I may be getting a few more games pretty soon, so that list may change! :D

Yep those three are very common. Clowns and Omega Race just $1 each, likewise Sargon Chess if you want it loose, or $2 for the complete version.

Of the rest I'd recommend gameplay wise:

AMC (aka Matrix) - Jeff Minter's opus shooter ($15)
Pharoah's Curse - good platformers ($10)
Artillery Duel - nice version of the perenial classic ($15)
Choplifter - amazing for the limitations of the Vic ($3)

Maybe others can chime in with their recommendations? :)

Don't forget, part of the fun of the VIC is writing your own games!

I mess around with the BASIC, but I'm not really good at it yet. Woohoo, I made it play Enter Sandman....

Seriously though, coding on the VIC-20 is cool and all, but I'd rather buy some games for it. My skills aren't advanced enough to code complete games yet.

Buy yourself one of the 32k expanders I make and get access to ALL the games.
