Prince of Persia
Hi,
just uploaded my personal version of Prince of Persia for the VIC-20
Download from here
Prince of Persia was one of my favourite games when I got my first PC (I have to express my deepest admiration by his creator, Jordan Mechner). And, when I saw a version of this game for the Spectrum (developped by someone nicknamed Nicodim), I thought that something similar, to some extent, could be done for the VIC-20. Given the difference in available RAM (Spectrum version, as the original game developped for the Apple II, required 128 Kb) I had to do many simplifications. This is clearly noticeable in the movements (not as smooth as the original) and, especially, in the sword fighting (when started working on this I already had very limitted available memory so you'll see this is very simplified). Besides this, you'll find many other differences with the original game (and, even, with the spectrum version), but I hope you find it interesting to see the Kid running and jumping through the VIC-20 screens. This VIC-20 version includes 9 levels (these try to be similar to the 9 first levels of the original version) plus the final scene with the Princess.
I hope you enjoy it
Cheers

That's just amazing! I'll have to make myself a 35k expansion I think, and try it on the real thing!

Re: Prince of Persia
Totally amazing, you've got the feel for the game right and superb presentation!
Re: Prince of Persia
Looks very nice indeed. Well done! Sadly I suck at this game, waiting for a longplay on YouTube
Maybe you can use the same engine to do a port of Karateka?

Re: Prince of Persia
There are some bugs reported in the Vic-20 FB group. I’m working on it. It seems that testing is never enough. Will take some time to get all fixed. Will upload a new version when done…

Uploaded a video with the presentation screen and the first level:
That would be nice. I'll need a new project when (if) I complete fixing bugs with POP
Thanks!

This is a fantastic recreation. I was never any good at the original game but it looks and feels pretty close to me. Great work!

As Andy pointed out: You nailed the feel of the original.
Absolutely great work.

Re: Prince of Persia
I have just uploaded a new version with 3 bug fixes:
It was possible, in certain cases, jump over a wall (when jumping from a very specific distance) and get stucked there:
When losing last life falling from two floors, Prince wasn't killed but was someway stucked in the middle of the floor:
When jumping in the middle of two loose floor tiles, both will fall together leaving a 'trail' in the screen:
These are working OK in the new .d64 I have uploaded. I hope I haven't broken anything else with these changes...
Thanks, again, for the reception of the game
Cheers
