Voltage level shifter recommendations?

Hi,
I would like to connect my vic20 to a 3.3v microcontroller. Any suggestions on level shifter ICs to bidirectionally convert between 3.3v and 5v?
Thanks!
Patrick

It would be helpful if you told people what type of microcontroller you intend to use with your project. If its I/O pins are 5V tolerant, you wouldn't need to use any level shifters.

An example....

page 5 into
http://focus.ti.com/pdfs/logic/bswitchprodbull.pdf
you need the CBT
D version...
This "analog switch" does not buffer the I/O, but it does not need to be declared the signals direction and the High Z state.....
they are ANALOGICALLY transparent!

Hi Mike. Sorry for not providing more details. I was hoping to connect a raspberry pi pico. While the board can take 5v power, the i/o is 3.3v and official documentation claims it isn't 5v tolerant.
Thanks MCes. That's an interesting solution. I did not realize that such ICs existed.

Yes, but except don't pay three bucks each for them. These are $7 for 10:
