Bit late coming back to this thread... but just thought I'd comment I've had a Splice Vision in my hands. Very weird machine indeed!
Yeah, from what I gather the SC-3000 was a standalone computer. Perhaps it would've been wiser for Sega to jump onto the MSX bandwagon and compete or co-operate with Konami on the quality cartridge games circuit.
This is only somewhat on-topic but I had to share. Check out this auction. Colour me impressed. That's just about every console I can think of and they look to be in near to perfect condition. While 3000 Euros is a lot of money, it doesn't seem unreasonable for a minimum bid. I can't wait to see how high this goes.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.
On another forum I'm a member of, two members have already expressed their ability to pick together a similar setup of consoles, given that you're willing to pay 3000 Euro for it. So yes, it is a rather hefty price.
2501 built-in games in one cartridge? Yes, I know most are slight variations of eachother rather than unique games, but it is one of the biggest NNN-in-one claims I've ever seen.
After a while, I think they just started making up wild numbers. I knew someone who made/designed these clones in Hong Kong. One gameboy cart claimed over 100 games and only had 16 (they repeated in order to boost the menu count to over 100). The guy had to come up with synonyms for each game. "Space Invaders", "Alien Attackers", "Space Attackes", "Alien Invasion", "Super Invasion"...

Some of the Japlish/Engrish (is those acceptable names?) names they come up with for the games in these cartridges are just bizarre! There is a game called "Milk and Nuts" or something (I think that's even the original name).
Milk and Nuts is an old NES game. It's a squirrel or something, running around trying to collect nuts before the cat (or whatever) gets you. I thought it was rubbish myself...
