It appears to be a mechanical issue, not an electronic one.
You can resolve it quite pragmatically and simply hold the SD card in place with a small paperclip or other physical means (plastic clip or clothes peg). As long as the gold contacts of the SD card touch the gold sprung contacts of the reader it will still work.
