the guide is pretty foolproof and helps you to identify where the traces needed are located depending on which board is in your particular 1541.... :)

There was a sealed box of Verbatum 5.25's at Goodwill today, thrift store for those who don't know, unfortunately they were HD's so I left them. I did pick up a hole puncher though so I can notch the other disks and format them.

How did you do that, did you just solder in a toggle switch somewhere?
Yeah, mounted a toggle switch on the front and a drive select switch on the rear. I also modified the drive to run from a ATX PSU because the original PSU and regulators were fried and I burnt a JiffyDOS ROM and added that as well.

Finding where to connect the switch was done by probing the circuit and looking at the schematics.
