I've played them in VICE. You're right they are quite brilliant. But imagine what could be done in 20K of machine code!

I do too. It's just I like to see the system stretched to its limits as well.

I agree with 16KVIC20. Not to "push" the Vic to its limits, but to see old games we always wished on our favourite little machine.
Each of us have some favourite game that would like to see on the Vic. I am expecially into the good old glories such as Moon Cresta, Popeye, Phoenix, or Jumpman.
In my case, this is just as to go back to my youth days. Probably Popeye could not properly work (although I think that a 32k Vic could manage its three screens and graphic) but I'm quite sure that Jumpman Junior could perfectly fit on an expanded Vic.
In my opinion... well, even Bubble Bobble could run on a Vic. And it would be a great fun!
Rhurst's comment is interesting: "
I wrote my largest and greatest space-shooter game, as a sequel to Omega Race, and it is an original game (not a clone), but yet it attracted so few users. But my clones in Quikman and Berzerk had outrageous attention and reviews, followed by some noticeable interest with Sprite Invaders and Break-Out!, but "crickets" for Omega Fury".
Why an original game would attract less people than a port? Probably just for the reason I mentioned.
An old game "resurrected" to work on the Vic brings us back to our youthness, when we wished to have that game at home, on our "personal computer".
I've also say that I think TETRIS it's impressive on the Vic. I can't wait to play it on my real Vic when I'll put my hands on the Mega Cart!
However, I will check Omega Fury and Ten-ten, so I can make an opinion about new games on the VIC!

I think learning new concepts and rules are more difficult when you're an adult. Children have (or maybe I should say had) more patience for new things.
A new game for an older target-audience would have to be very simple (like most popular iphone games) or familiar. We spent too much brain power learning new tax codes, insurance policies, and other adult burdens. There's little energy to learn a completely new game concept.

I hate to say it, but what about "angry birds" ?

Interesting, Jeff. This is another, good, point of view. I think you are quite right.
Centuri and Universal

From Atarisoft, I would have loved to see (and would still love to see from ANYBODY) Phoenix and Vanguard.
One thing I liked about Coleco and their Colecovision (aside from the Z-80, which I've never really liked) is their willingness to license "dark horse" titles.. namely a couple of favorites from Universal: Lady Bug and Cosmic Avenger. You could throw Venture-Line's Looping in there for good measure.

"willingness" or compromise? I always thought they took what they could get when competing against other companies. It seemed like all a company needed was to say that a game was "in the arcades" (like saying "seen on tv") even if the title were not popular in the arcades.
Paying programmers to port games must also be cheaper than developing something original and hiring a legal team to make sure no one could sue for similarities to existing games.

Mega bump!
I was just thinking about this thread because there are 2 games I would love to see done on the Vic. The first already kind of exists and that would be Q*Bert. The original port is so lacking it's embarrassing. A couple of years ago there was a new version being shown here but sadly it never materialised.
My second dream game would be Bomb Jack. I really think it could be done. Wouldn't that be cool? Especially when it inevitably turned out to be better than the poor C64 version! Make it happen Robert. You know I love Omega Fury!

I just came across "Tank Battalion" game in MAME and remember playing it at the local garage (back when everywhere had an arcade machine).

I was thinking that this should be fairly straight forward conversion - especially with Robert Hurst's software sprite stack.
......
Maybe even the original code could probably be ported directly to a vic + 8K as ROM size seems to be about 10K
from MAME....
Main CPU : M6502 (@ 1 Mhz)
Sound Chips : Discrete circuitry
Screen orientation : Vertical
Video resolution : 224 x 256 pixels
Screen refresh : 60.00 Hz
Palette colors : 65

That really looks like a VIC game - especially with all the solid colours and the kind of stepped way the tanks move.
