OK, my beige wedge shaped PSUs have the following on them:

TRANSFORMER
PART.NO. 902503-07
BV220-0-03831 ELWE
P.240V~50Hz 33VA
S. 9V~1A T40/E
5V- 1,5A

T160mA

There are also some strange symbols. The T in T40/E field is smudged, it could be a Y, since I don't know what it's menat to stand for, it's hard to know.

Both PSUs have the same writing (although printed slightly differently). I use one for my VIC 20, the other for my C64.

Looks like it is the exact one e5frog mentioned.

That should be OK for normal C64 operation (and VIC20).

I disagree.

7.5VA on the 5Vdc (that's 1.5A) and 9Vac @ 9VA (1A) is good enough for a C64.

You're too late eslapion, I already did the math. ;-)

What amps do the "VIC 20 only" PSU:s have?

the vic only ones are 10vac at 30VA so 10vac at 3 amps. Mind you this is a early vic 2 prong

Yes, those are a little hard to use in a C64 though. ;-)

Does anyone has the lower rated PSU with DIN connector that was meant for VIC20 only. I think it has been mentioned here before but I can't find anything good when searching.

OK, thanks everybody. I am pleased that I seem to have 2 that are interchangeable.

Sorry for the very late answer.

I have a VIC-20 PSU here, that's rated 5Vdc@ 7.5Watts (okay for a C64) with 9Vac@ 2.5 VA (definitely NOT okay for a C64).

Model no. is 251052-02

After reading everybodies answer on this thread, I am still totally confused. Here is the commodore 64 power supply that I own:

it's a 4 Pin Power supply
Input: 117V 60MHz 40watt
Output: 5V DC 8.5W 9VAC 9.0VA
P/N: 251053-02

I want to use it on my Vic-20. Will this work fine on my Vic-20? Will it harm it in any way?

Unless it is actually faulty, in which case it won't work with anything at all, that's a yes.

It should work just fine with your VIC-20. However, a few rare VIC-20s require grounding on all unused pins of the 7 pin DIN power connector. In that specific case, the datasette won't work. Everything else will work fine.

Unless your power supply is faulty, in which case it could damage any computer attached to it, 64, VIC-20 or otherwise, it should not harm your VIC-20.

Does anybody know if this power supply will also work on a Vic-20?

specifications; Input: 117V 50/60HZ. Output 5VDC 8.5W 9VAC 2.1VA.

It has a 4 pin round Din connector.

Thanks.

AFAIK, it will work fine on a VIC-20 but it could damage a C64.

With 2.1VA this is definitely NOT a C64 PSU.

Could you provide part no. and picture for the Denial Wiki?

Out of curiosity, what are the specifications on a Commodore 64 power supply. Some power supplies have 4 pins, some have 7 pins. It's confusing as hell. As far as this power supply is concerned, I don't have it yet. I am thinking about buying it.

On the supply I currently have, on the output it has 9.0VA and the one I might buy is 2.1VA. Is that going to be a problem?

Note: By the way Eslapion, the Behr Bonz is still going strong.

C64 has 1.5-1.7A on 5V and 1A on the 9VAC, that's at least 7.5VA for 5V and 9.0VA for 9VAC. Sometimes they seem to use W instead of VA, when using W they should also have the phase difference in the calculations.

P = U I cos(phi)

If phi is 0 (no phase difference) then P = UI and the amount of W is the same as the amount of VA. But in reality it's rarely so but perhaps not so much that it makes a difference.

Eslapion already mention that the 9VAC 2.1VA won't be a problem with a VIC-20, but can't be used with a C64.
