Might as well...

You can download the second issue here. I understand that a tracker is available from a private torrent site but I am not the one that created it so I have no idea what it really is. I will have the complete archive available to all via Bittorrent this week though.

Thanks for the Gazette! I really like how the early ones treated both the VIC and the 64 as serious and respectable platforms.

I forgotten just what a treasure trove Compute's Gazette really was!

Moderator's Note: That is NOT the correct torrent. Download this one if you want the complete archive of Compute!'s Gazettes that was recently posted to the Usenet.

I noticed the magazines were scanned as photos rather than magazine print.

I think its very easy nowadays to tell any scanning software to remove the screening used in magazine prints to avoid weird wavy lines in the color images.

Just for the sake of comparing, I took a grab of a pic on page 5 of the second issue as it is in Golan's PDF and I scanned page 5 of my own copy of the second issue of CG.

As it is in Golan's PDF:

My scan with "magazine print" mode turned on:

I think the difference in quality is huge yet scanning in "magazine print" mode takes no more time than scanning in normal photo mode and all it took was activating a checkmark.

Do you think it would be possible to scan the magazines with that mode turned on?

Eslapion, while I agree that your scanned image looks better, I seriously doubt that anyone that took the time to scan in the ENTIRE collection of Compute!'s Gazette magazines would do it over just to improve the image quality.

Possible? Yes but it's unlikely because so much time has already been invested. There are still many more magazines to scan so I'll raise the issue (no pun intended) and get back to you. It may be possible to do the scans that way from now and and perhaps go back and redo the already released issues later.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey d0c, after 95.1% the download stopped, rest seems not to be available - do you know of any problems? :-(

I just checked and availability is at 4.992.
I'm still seeding.
So you should be able to complete download.

Ack. Some folks on Lemon were having the same problem and the probelm is that you're downloading the wrong thing. What you're getting is a single file called "Compute!'s Gazette.tar.bz2" which is cut-down version of a compilation that was released last year. You want this which is all the Compute's Gazettes in individual PDF form. There are quite a few of us seeding so it should be a relatively quick download.
