Jeez! I'm totally surprised that Commodore went to the trouble of hacking in all that Secam stuff. It doesn't seem to fit in with the whole companies' ideas at the time.

Actually, it does. When they were selling the Vic, I think they actually recognized the benefits of getting into a market early at great expense. They had reps going around to all the schools in the remotest of locations to demonstrate Commodores to the kids. For some reason, they screwed things up after that. I think all that money from the C64 sales went to their heads.

I don't know if Commodore themselves did it. It looks like it was done by a third party distributor for Commodore in France. This is judging by the look of the board, and the fact there is a sticker that says it is SECAM'd by a company called PROCEP (which I assume was under contract by Commodore to do this).
