I'm getting a little nervous. Don't ruin this for all of us. It's a nearly 30 year old computer. I don't think this is worthy of litigation.

pls. calm down

Post by folkoh »

Hi guys,

I am usually just watching what's going on, but I am a bit worried now. I think Megacart and Behr Bonz are both great projects. The creators of both carts should be proud on what they have done. They should respect the work of each other, a work that should be dedicated to preserve our VIC past for the future, a work that is non-profit. I have no problem to pay people for that work as long as it covers the parts and the work they put into the development and production at a fair level. I think the competition between both projects is a good thing, as long as it motivates both to develop a second improved edition - for the fun of it, not for the money.

Guys, you did such a great job, don't spoil it by bringing it to this level of fighting about intellectual rights, copy protection blah-blah: this is simply and obviousley just about money. Stop it. Now. Please.

Similar things happened within fan groups for other home computers and the result is always the same: the projects die. Nobody has a profit then.

Let's take a deeeep breath an bring back the fun!

I respect the work of both parties a lot.

I have to admit that this seemingly endless circular fighting (in this thread and involving other people in other threads) really is making Denial a chore to wade through everyday. I get a little knot in my stomach now when I see these types of post - I used to look forward to checking out the new Denial messages.

Please guys, lets make Denial a friendly place again. I would be happy if every one of the fighting posts over the past two years was deleted. It seems like the arguments will never be settled, how 'bout we just take them off the forum instead of filling up Denial with 75% fighting and only 25% VIC-20 related posts.

This is great- it's the first timid deadline I see in one year of development :D .

I think everyone here should support this point of view by all means. Things can't get so bad and far from the friendly forum we used to have some time ago- only due to a personal fight between two or three members.

EDIT: happy to see some good ol' common sense popping up - keep going friendly, guys.

I'm leaking a bit of news here.

We investigated getting replicas of the original cardboard boxes made for the MegaCart (with original artwork posted here before) on a professional 4-colour press with custom dies. Turns out that in the low quantities we require, it would have cost something like $15-30 CAD each for box made this way

Our next choice is to use plastic VHS cases. This turned out to be a wonderful decision. It GREATLY reduces cost to produce the MegaCart packaging, and still looks very smart! I've re-designed the artwork to fit a full-sleeve plastic VHS case. Here is a mock-up of the new packaging.

Hope you like it! We are getting very close now!

Plain GREAT. It's a pity you couldn't do it in a "traditional" Commodore cardboard box, it would have fit a space I've left for it in my collection :P .

looks good either way. this one better protects the cart.

I had a vision. two mega cart releases. One with all commercial releases. another with all denial member releases...

Jeff- Given the time and efforts spent for this release, I guess it will remain a dream. :P
I agree that this case better protects the cartridge from hits and dust etc, but I'd put it in a conventional one because I'm a purist and Commodore never used a VHS case back then  .

I appreciate the time and effort that have gone into the aesthetics (box, label etc.) but I have to be honest and say that the only part I care about is the cartridge itself. I'm in it for the functionality. Everything else is superfluous.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

Many thanks for your work Brent, personally i like it very much.

The question is that not all MegaCart users are about to spent $20/$25 more for the box, Golan for example , we want to send MegaCarts in a professional style packaging so this is a best compromise and looks very good considering that is a very cheap solution too.

OK, since the work is done now we will start with this hybrid version, in the future, if there is interest, we may have other versions.

Thorn EMI distributed their cartridges in what appears to be "Betamax" boxes, with a custom insert though. Given how large a VHS tape is, will there be some kind of cheaper insert for the cartridge inside the box?
