Who wants their releases available on tape?
Hi,
I want to resolve your problems with getting tapes out with a new web site called TapesOnDemand.com which will produce and ship computer tapes just in time. For that I'm collecting titles. VIC-20 first.
Here's the standard deal: high-quality(!) tape production (digitally printed inlay and labels) and shipping world-wide will eat away €6.50. On top of that you can specify the price of your release of which I'll receive 30% – €1 would be the minimum I want – so a tape should be around €9.99 unless you decide to not want to earn anything with it. Payments can be done via PayPal or UK wire. There is no VAT yet.
Please hit me with your releases, new or old, I won't care. Am curious with what kind of binaries or, if possible, artwork you can come up with, so I can figure out what can be automated and we can play around with things a bit.
In the simplest case just say "yes", send a link to the binary and name your preferred price. I can provide you with a turbo loader and title audio player (yep, the playing-samples-from-tape thing) if you have a tune handy. Links to reviews, Youtube videos and quotes from magazines would also be nice to have.
The tapes will be black, have serial numbers on their labels (for each release) and will be ten minutes in length on each side, so plenty can go onto them.
My email address would be pixel ät hugbox dot org if you prefer that to private message in the forum.
So much for starters. More ideas welcome. Or just tell me that this is probably a bad idea.

I am unclear, are you printing tapes or redistributing?

I grab a blank, slap a label on it (hopefully designed by you), grill it to your preference, take a bite for testing, wrap an inlay around it (which I also hope has been designed by you), stuff it in a case and that in turn into an envelope, stamps and address on and off it shoots.R'zo wrote:I am unclear, are you printing tapes or redistributing?

Re: Who wants their releases available on tape?
I am going to be interested in this once it is finished Legend of Victor. I have not produced artwork for it yet but am planning on producing my own artwork to go along with it.
I was wondering if you can print programs compiled with Austro-Compiler to tape?
I have also been interested for some time now in trying to produce a tape that was a chiptune datasette on 1 side and an audio tape on the other. Would able to or have any interest in this?

After extracting the PRG from the disk image it ran in the emulator. Any reasons you might picture that would make it difficult?R'zo wrote:I was wondering if you can print programs compiled with Austro-Compiler to tape?
Sure. Cool idea.R'zo wrote:I have also been interested for some time now in trying to produce a tape that was a chiptune datasette on 1 side and an audio tape on the other. Would able to or have any interest in this?

Looks like it can work. http://hugbox.org/pixel/external/denial/lov1.2.tap.zip – Loads in 40 seconds. Works on the real thing.

I gave it a try last night. I like the way the game flows better uncompliled. So never mind on this point.pixel wrote:After extracting the PRG from the disk image it ran in the emulator. Awesome! I can't get this to go past the title screen. I am at the point of debugging right now anyway so that's ok.pixel wrote:Looks like it can work. http://hugbox.org/pixel/external/denial/lov1.2.tap.zip – Loads in 40 seconds. Works on the real thing.

Re: Who wants their releases available on tape?
The file named C/something generated from austro compiler is the compiled program and it's not dependent on any other files. So it's just to save that program to tape. No problems. Boray Garmmon is also austro compiled.
