today i dug out my 1540 and decided to do a little work to it
I have added a 1540/1541 adapter board to the drive and I can select what mode to boot from when turning the drive on
I use the the write protect sensor to detect and do the switching, I know its nothing new and has been done before
that way I didnt need to drill a hole in the case and ruin a original 1540 drive case its got the stock 1540 rom and the jiffydos 1541 rom so I get the best of both worlds
I am thinking of adding a dual color led in place of the power led to tell me what mode it is in, just for some fun

Re: 1540/1541 switch
I have a VIC-1541 with long board (same electronics board as the VIC-1540) which I arranged more or less like that.ken wrote:I am thinking of adding a dual color led in place of the power led to tell me what mode it is in, just for some fun
There was already a hole for a switch so why not use it...
I put a 27C256 in which I put 3 different ROMs:
- VIC-1540 (325303-01)
- VIC-1541 (901229-05)
- JiffyDOS for 1541
... along with a 3 position switch.
Now I wonder if there is such a thing as a 3 color LED with the same physical shape as the LEDs used on these machines.
Be normal.

yes you can get red/green/blue 4 lead led`s that fit
along with a lot of other variants
I have fast flash and slow flash leds and even ones that dont care about polarity or if its AC/DC
