The Computer Chronicles

Post by English Invader »

This is an old US TV show from the 80s/90s that covers the evolution of home/business computers in their various forms. It's a real treasure trove of rare footage and information that I feel compelled to share. These are a couple of my favourites:

Amiga v ST 1985 (coverage of the two systems at launch):

DIY PC Building 1992 (surprising how little has changed since then):

I only found out about these last night when someone posted one on a forum. Anyone here watch this program when it was on back in the day?

I watched the Computer Chronicles through the 80s and 90s. I still watch old episodes of the show every few years for fun. I wish there was still something like it, even online. These days there doesn't seem to be similar straightforward "no nonsense" reporting about tech (or anything else) :D

Early on I didn't know Gary Kildall was an important figure in early computers. Later when I learned who he was, I was impressed that he would be a presenter on the show.

So awesome, thanks!

That wikipedia page for Gary Kildall is awful. It says he created CP/M and founded Digital Research, then says he's mainly remembered for a failed attempt to get CP/M on the IBM PC. :P
