All I want for Vicmas is......
Time to write your Christmas list for Vic.
What game would do you like for Christmas for your Vic?
It can be 1983 vintage retail, a long desired cartridge, vapourware, modern, self coded, type in.
All is fair and game.
I would love a sequel to Myriad by Rabbit and maybe Jeff's incredible R-Type clone.

- [feasible] A true, multi-colour, full-parser graphic adventure in the style of Magnetic Scrolls masterpieces:
- [only a dream] The VIC version of Sherlock: the Riddle of the Crown Jewels by Infocom - one of Infocom's titles too big to fit the fully expanded RAM:
- [hard to find, but you never know] The Vaisala weather sensor for VIC and C64 with its software (being a weather analysis newbie and a retro-computerist, this would be in fact the best Xmas gift):
- [my wish for Xmas] To find in a flea market and purchase for a few euros a complete copy of this game:

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I think it would be fun to have a ZMachine client so that we could play Infocom games (and some small modern games) on VIC-20s.
VIC-20 NTSC 40K (stock 5K + 16K + 2 x 8K + 3K SuperExpander + cartridge expander)

128 NTSC flat 640K with 1750 REU
64 NTSC breadbox x 3

My Mega Cart arrived two days ago, it is definitely a very good VIC 20 Christmas Present.
I would like to see VIC 20 versions of:
W*H*B*/Bloxorz
Alien 8 or Knight Lore
A decent fighting game, something like Fighting Warrior by Melborne House for the C64.
Seeing as I am not much advanced beyond as a programmer:
10 ? "Hello World";
20 Goto 10
I'm not holding my breath.
On a more serious note, a really good "Denial VIC 20" Christmas Present wouldbe a mega tape of all the recently produced software in tape format. There is nothing more cool than a brand new cassette tape with a selection of games on!
It would be great to play Realms of Quest, for example, but without a disk drive or SD device, neither of which I'm likely to get, it's unlikely to happen.

It's not a sin Jim, it has already been done . Our member TNT was able to do the magic, creating the VIC version of Z machine interpreter and story disks for almost all the early 'classic' titles from Infocom. I personally play-tested all of them, and they work flawlessly; there's also the possibility to increase the number of characters in rows and columns in order to have more text on the screen; and to change screen, border, and character colours.PhotoJim wrote:Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I think it would be fun to have a ZMachine client so that we could play Infocom games (and some small modern games) on VIC-20s.
After a while, Mike provided me with a tool to copy the interpreter and each story onto a single D81 disk, which I was able to use on my FE3 with no problems at all.
Nevertheless, TNT always considered the work to be only partial, as no savegame option was implemented. This is the main reason why he wouldn't let the forum members download his otherwise impressive production:
Also, he disagreed with Mike on the matter of putting the adventures on a single disk, when a simple FE3 hardware mod (adding switch disk buttons) would have been safer. No further progress was made since then.
For more info, see HERE and HERE.
P.S. My avatar is an actual screenshot from Zork I on the VIC .

A fully functional version of VICE 2.4 -- which means sterling xvic paddle support with a mouse again.
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

That's seriously cool. Any chance we could get the save game feature added to it and get it released? I for one would definitely use it.orion70 wrote:Our member TNT was able to do the magic, creating the VIC version of Z machine interpreter and story disks for almost all the early 'classic' titles from Infocom.
(And I have an '81 so the option of throwing everything on one disk is viable for me, but I don't mind using 5.25" disks... feels more correct somehow!).

Bah, "more correct" would be using a tape drive!
Oh, and I want one of these for Vicmas:
http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bul ... 83be42672c
I'd also love it if VICE 2.4 supported an RR-Net/cs8900 on the VIC, since this is now possible (64NIC+ with MasC=eruade cart adaptor).

Mike, reading that will give me nightmares tonight... threading 14 magtapes on the old Kensington 1600 bpi reel-to-reel drive to do a full backup.

I know one game on the C16 which actually went all-out with 'random access' on tape, Winter Olympiade by Udo Gertz/Kingsoft.
It used a fast loader, and the menu system was repeated after each discipline. You could either do all sports events in order (and by doing that first time, note down the tape counter for each discipline), or try out a single discipline by (re-)winding the tape to the count which you had noted down beforehand ...
