1541 board in a 1541C drive possible?

Will this work if I just swap over the roms?

No need to swap ROMs; the 1541 and 1541C ROMs are identical AFAIK. But depending on the type of mechanism in the drive the 1541 board may not be compatible anyway.

Really? But the 1541C has a zero track detector... This wont be in the 1541 roms.

True, at least for some 151Cs. The two 1541Cs I have owned had identical internals to the 1541, only the drive mechanism differed – they had the newer mech with a lever on the front.

Later 1541C drives had a revised board with one 16K ROM instead of the two 8K ROMs in the older model, as well as the zero track sensor. Or am I completely wromg on this?

I am sort of fuzzy on the issue, but I thought only the 1570 and 1571 had zero-track detectors. I had thought the 1541-II had it, but someone told me it didn't.

As for the 1541C - it was my impression it was just a 1541 made to match the C64C and was internally identical.

Of course, I'd love to know the real deal if I'm wrong.

Yup, the one I have has a zero track detector in it.
