Vic 20 selling advice

Post by Berlioz »

I have a Vic 20 that evidently has a faulty chip because it will not display properly - just a blank blue screen (not black). Basically the standard start-up screen but no text.

Anyway, I'm wondering if I should sell my whole lot together on Ebay, or on here, or separate. I have, besides the computer (in orig. box):

Power adapter and vid. cables with computer-to-TV switch box,
Books: Vic 20 Programmer's Reference Guide, and "Personal computing on the Vic 20 - a friendly computer guide"
..and a Radio Shack "Getting Started with Color Basic" (not Commodore, obviously)

Carts: Write Now! (word processor), Pirate's Cove, Avenger, Radar Ratrace, Jupiter Lander, Mole Attack, Omega Race, Cosmic Cruncher, Mission Impossible, and Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom.

Do you think someone would want the whole lot, or should I break it up so that someone can get the Vic for parts, or someone can get the carts, etc.

If you decide to sell separately, I wouldn't mind the Programmer's Reference Guide and a couple of the carts.

PM me if you decide on that route :)

Pete.

If the computer is faulty, you'll probably get more money out of it by parting out the collection.

HOWEVER, You'll also have to balance that against eBay and PayPal fees for each auction.

Of course, you could sell a bunch of it over the forums to avoid eBay.

If your plan is to get rid of everything while making some money, you'll want to sell it as a lot. To help maximize profits, you could bundle something that's less desirable with something that's more desirable; say, sell the carts in one lot, and the Vic with the books in another. To make the most money, you will want to sell each item separately; but then you may end up with something that doesn't sell.

Ultimately, if you can find a Vic that has other problems (say, broken keys on the keyboard), you could probably buy it for cheap and mix and match to end up with a working Vic which would be worth a lot more.

Sorry, Pedro. I'd love to visit Edinburgh, actually, but I am in the US.

I appreciate the suggestions above. I don't plan on trying to fix it - I usually make things worse when I try to fix something as delicate as a circuit board.

I've only ever sold things on Ebay, but I will let you guys know here when I decide to sell what, and let you get first dibs.

Now Selling!

Post by Berlioz »

Ok, I've decided to go ahead and sell it all on Ebay, in two separate lots: (Thanks, DigitalQuirk, for the suggestion!)

Computer with books: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0348058678

And, cartridge collection: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0348068973

Take a look and let me know if you're interested.

Computer needing repair - or use for spare parts - along with accessories and books, starting price $5.00 and still no bids. Ending one hour from now. Anyone interested?

I was watching that item myself, and want it just for the box & manuals. And the "spare" VIC may still prove to be useful.
