Too expensive for me as well... :-(

The seller says "Achtung das Laufwerk funktioniert nicht am C64...der ist zu schnell getaktet", which I believe means that this will not work on a C64 because the C64 is too fast for it. Which is backwards... Actually, this drive is too fast for the C64! Of course, you could always modify it to work on a C64, but then it wouldn't be a real 1540. :-)

Well, it is Tinchen's Online Shop. That shop is always overpriced. Have a look at the shop's other auctions. Weird prices.

Fortunately, I recently traded a US VIC-20 with golden label and square letter keyboard for a VC1540. I guess this was a good deal. Only the front label of the VC1540 is missing, but the original ROMs etc are all there.

Does anyone here have a 1540 front label for sale or do you know who might have one ?

I bought a 1541-II and an 802 printer from him. I didn't think they were overpriced considering they were properly tested and work perfectly.
(€200 is nuts for that though!)

That's a very rare drive, but - not rare enough in functionality, you're paying a hell of a lot for 1 ROM and a different sticker..

And yet, I find myself strangely attracted to it.. it would complement my VC-20 quite nicely.. (which I also paid through the nose for..)

Not overly surprising, the VC 1540 ended with no sale.

The same seller is, however, selling a 24K memory expansion for the VC-20:
