What are these? What is their purpose? On some cartridges there is a cut on one side, like a gap between two connectors. On other carts, there are two of them - one on each side. On others there is no cut at all... Any explanation?

PRG Starter - a VICE helper / Vic Software (Boray Gammon, SD2IEC music player, Vic Disk Menu, Tribbles, Mega Omega, How Many 8K etc.)
Maybe there are other units using the same spacing (industrial standard), but using a keying not to fit the wrong way. Some manufacturers making cartridges for several of these systems might use the same boards?
Compare the tape and userports, which are reversed and keyed on the VIC. While the C2N also is keyed, most userport devices I've seen didn't bother much to respect that.
