I've been looking to acquire the Penultimate+2 cart and already have one of the Deluxe SD2IEC+ 1541 for my C64's.

I assume a +2 would be sufficient for my needs and the upgrade is for those that do not already have SD2IEC?

What's the benefit of this over just using a stand-alone SDIEC?

It's a PU+2 with built-in SD2IEC, so there ...

(... if there had been any changes with the built-in ROMs, I have lost track about that long ago already. tfw8b simply add and remove ROMs - games and utilities - as they please. There's no active collaboration with the community, for example asking people here in Denial what would be desirable features. Bugs like the skipped file entry in the file browser probably would not happen with a few more testers ...)

I would account that figure to big fingers or typo.

The memory map of the VIC-20 is fixed, so only RAM1 .. RAM3, BLK1 .. BLK3 and BLK 5 can be expanded with memory (RAM or ROM). PU+2/+3 will likely need I/O2 and/or I/O3 for their own cartridge bank-switching logic. How this logic is supposed to be programmed has not been disclosed, and anyway, even if PU+2/+3 supported banking RAM blocks, that would only add to the bewildering array of register setups of other already existing banking memory expansion cartridges.
