Vic20 programming languages online?

Post by HarryP2 »

I am looking for some Vic20-based programming utilities online. I am aware of UPL and Datatronic Forth. Are there any others?

There is WAX which is a modern extension to BASIC and it gives you an assembler, disassembler and the ability to write and mix assembler code in with your BASIC amongst other things.

Human Engineered Software (HES) also released a Forth cartridge, confusingly also called VIC Forth. The also released Turtle Graphics i.e. Logo, though that is stretching the definition of a programming environment rather a lot. If you are looking for a cross development system, look up Turbo Rascal (no, that's not a typo)

Note that if you plan to use the Datatronics VIC Forth, unless you are using the original cartridge you need to have a 3K RAM cartridge installed (or configured in an emulator) as the cartridge includes 3K and assumes that memory is there.
