Sub Med for Unexpanded VIC-20
Sub Med is the third and final game in the Agent Anzu trilogy, and most likely my last release of 2020.

Description: Avast! Our undersea base is in danger. Navigate your sub, pick up a med pack from the lighthouse, deliver it to the base. Avoid sea life, and watch your oxygen level!
Tips:
* Speed is important. Keep the joystick engaged as you move. If you stop or bump into something, you'll lose momentum, time, oxygen, and points.
* At your fastest speed, you'll easily outrun the fish. So the keys to the game are timing and weaving through heavy traffic.
* You can turn without slowing down. This can keep you from ramming into the backs of the fish.
* The fish will yield to you if you're diving or surfacing past them. As long as you don't directly run into them, you won't lose speed.
* The joystick button toggles the music

Very nice. The pushing ability makes a big difference. I wonder how it would play if you could push in all directions.
BTW, Helix Colony also impressed me. Funnily enough I have yet to try Turtle RescueBot. 'Funnily' because it has so many ingredients to my taste.

The fish are there to be an ambulatory maze, so they have to be barriers. In an earlier version, you could move over them with the loss of points, but it's more interesting when they're walls.

Yes, it definitely felt that way (ambulatory maze), which I appreciated. Pushing in all directions would probbaly require additonal game element to still make it challenging and, as you say, make it a very different game.

I've attached the D64 file in the original post. Levels and speed are pretty well-tuned now (I think), so there's more spread in points between a beginner and a more skilled player. I've also added a pitometer display, some other small graphic refinements, and various bug fixes.
