connect 1541 to Win10

Post by heaven6502 »

hi all,

VIC-20 was my first computer I got at age of 13 or 14... and after that I was an Atari guy... now I am back coding stuff first time...

now I am trying to connect my 2 1541s to my Windows PC laptop with XU1541... I managed it once in summer where I copied over my c64 coded stuff to real media.

but since Creators Update (?) I am not able to detect the drive in CBM transfer tool.

I need a "reliable" solution (best for both C64 and VIC) to get my code running from real machine...

(or is there a solution which can run trackloaders on SD card?)

The 1541uk can work directly for both vic20 and c64. A 1541u2 plugged into a c64 for power + selection can be connected to a vic20 iec port.

A ZoomFloppy should work as well. That's what I use for connecting a real 1541 to my Windows machine.

But since I got a SD2IEC, I don't even use that any more. You should be able to copy from a real 1541 to a virtual floppy image on the SD card (using either a real C64 or VIC-20). Then you can copy the SD over to Windows 10.

I can confirm to you that it does not (work with Win10).

I borrowed a Zoomfloppy from a friend last year because I wanted to dump a G64 image to disk using a 1571 disk drive along with NibWrite. The software drivers for Zoomfloppy NEVER recognized this specific drive or any other. I decided not to purchase Zoomfloppy as a consequence and this is clearly a software issue as both the drive and the tested Zoomfloppy work perfectly (with other configurations).

I have yet to find a way to dump the G64 image.
Be normal.

Hmmm. Then I must have used Windows 7....shoot...I don't remember trying it with Windows 10 now that I think about it.

I have to specify my version of Windows 10 is French-Canadian, not U.S.

I have no idea if this makes a difference.

Just found this:-

http://commodore.software/downloads/cat ... sfer-tools

Find the program OpenCBM and Tools v0.03 (5th item from bottom), download and run it.

It will install all the files you need to get your ZoomFloppy working on windoze 10 64bit.

100% working on my laptop utilizing the excellent CBMxfer (5th item from top on the same page) by Steve Gray (sjgray).

One of the reasons I went to World of Commodore this year is I wanted Jim Brain to get a Zoomfloppy to work with my i7 Win10-64bit laptop.

Jim Brain wasn't there...

I can confirm that ZoomFLoppy works on Windows 10, but if you are installing post build 1709, you need to use the .99 release on Spiro's site. The link on my page has been updated. It will use the Zadig drivers loader to get around the "signed drivers" stuff in Windows 10.

Eslapion, sorry about not making it to WoC, but my SOs family had some health issues that precluded my attendance.

My laptop is equipped with the French Canadian version of Windows 10. Do you know if this could be an issue ?

It should not matter. Try the .4.99.99 version off my site, and see if it works for you. Email me directly and we can get it going, as Windows 10 is working for sure.
