Topic: Why VIC-20 and not C64?

I love both the VIC 20 and the C64 in more or less equal amounts. The VIC because it was my first computer and it is just so... friendly :-) The C64 because it was (and still is) a fantastic machine and an embodiment of all that was cool with computers. When I got my Amiga 500 computers had come to ...

A complete VIC 20 usually sells for less than a 6561 (VIC) chip by itself, so a better option is to buy a working VIC 20 and keep both. This way you will have a working machine and one you can use for spare parts.

A VIC 20 should also be easier to find than a VIC chip.

Sold mine in 1984 to get a C64. Back then I couldn't imagine ever getting nostalgic about it.

First video game: Pong or Pong clone, probably late 70s. First arcade game: Probably Night Driver, also most likely late 70s. Don't remember where. First computer game: The first one that comes to mind is Blue Meanies on the VIC 20. Would have been late 1982 since we got our VIC in the second half ...

Like Vic20-Ian I miss the "space shooter" genre or whatever you want to call it (whcih was actually the first major arcade game trend): Galaxians, Galaga (one of my all-time favorite games), Gorf, Omega Race, etc. I can't vote with a clear concsience on any of the others, but first person ...

I know it's not VIC stuff, but it's sort of related. What do others think? I collect so that I can try the programs out, not so they sit collecting dust for 30 years. I say open them. There's no point in having all that stuff if you're not going to enjoy using it. And if any of the games aren't pre...

All predator animals have B&W vision because it gives a huge advantage in the hunt. Camouflage means nothing to me. Better night vision too. So, a million years ago, I'd probably be a hunter relying on you color-seers so I don't eat poisonous plants and offering my hunting prowess in return. Yo...

Jeff himself is colorblind so I'm sure he would have problems using your program.

I used to have quite a few old computers (several each of Amiga, Atari ST, ZX 81, ZX Spectrum, C64, C128, Plus/4, and VIC 20, plus an Oric-1, an SX-64, and a non-working Atari 600XL) but a couple of years ago I scaled it down to two VICs, three C64s, one SX-64, two (or three, can't remember) C128s, ...

Re: Grandparents Vic 20 NIB. What do I have here?

Is this thing a big deal? I remember doing homework and learning programming on a C64 as a kid, but I know NOTHING about Vic 20s. It probably depends on what you mean by a big deal. If you mean value to a collector I have no idea, but if you mean historical value and if it's a fun computer to use I...

Re: Vic-20 Cart info.

I also have a cart for a C-64 called Mini-Jini which was a database program. Is it possible to make a ROM copy of it and have ot run on a Vic-20? The instructions reference the Vic more than the C-64 A ROM dump of a C64 cart will not work on a VIC 20. The two computers use the same microprocessor (...
