Basic Speedup Tip

Basic Speedup Tip When programming my 20 line basic game, I discovered something... I don't know if this is well known, but at least I didn't know about it. Here we go... The variables first used in your program will be the fastest variables throughout the whole program. For example, if your program...

1541 tip

If you are using a 1541 or 1541-II diskdrive with your Vic20, you can use the following command: OPEN 15,8,15,"UI-":CLOSE15 It will make the drive go about 20% faster (=turn it into a 1540 drive). The 1541 drive is slower because the C64 is slower. You have to use the command after every r...

Btw, I plan to do this to get a program listing of my program:

open1,8,1,"ascii"
cmd1
list
close1

Then to load the file into a text editor on the amiga to add the {special signs}

...so you WILL be able to type my program in if you really like to! ;)

No. Has never happened to me and I don't think it ever will. Typing in programs that are available as files is just a BIG waste of time.

It uses the vic20 power supply. You plug the Vic20's 2-pin power supply cable into the Vic1020, and out of the vic1020 comes a cable just like it to plug into the Vic20. The power connection and power switch is exactly the same on the Vic1020 and Vic20. There even is a hidden control port opening in...

I'm in!!! I now have a 20 line game to contribute with... So any date is fine with me. ;) I also think the {} are best for the special signs... Should I upload the game or send it to anyone or what should I do? Maybe just upload it to my homepage and put a link and a program listing here? Will there...

... AND as files!!! For us who have a diskdrive + cable. For the Amiga, the cable is extremely easy to make: http://sta.c64.org/easy1541c.html And the 1541 mounts as a normal drive on the Amiga... Very nice...

Yes, it's a little overkill, but consider this for example... 1 8k ram cartridge at block 1 1 8k ram cartridge at block 2 1 8k ram cartridge at block 3 1 3k ram cartridge at (is it called block 0?) 1 4k utility rom at 1st half of block 5 1 4k utility rom at 2nd half of block 5 That's 6 cartridges an...

Thanks for the welcome!

Btw, my C128 (and probably all Swedish 128s) has a caps lock key to change the charterset to include or exclude Swedish characters. Quite nice! Works even in C64 mode...

Yes, the vic20 PAL version is faster than the NTSC version. But with the C64, the PAL version (0.98MHz) is slower than the NTSC version. Which means the PAL Vic20 is much faster than the PAL C64. (About 20%). Here is a comparision I made (in Swedish): http://home.worldonline.se/boray/datormuseum/vic...
