Re: Vic Nibbler
I have always liked Nibbler and it's about time that Vic gets a proper conversion :D I think the addition of a maze makes the standard growing-snake mechanism much more fun - particularly from the start of a game. It's quite an obvious addition too as the snakes themselves provide maze-like structur...

Re: Ghost Town anyone?
Aha, there is a Scott Adam's adventure named Ghost Town (never released on Vic). However this is a completely unrelated aracade adventure by Udo Gertz.ScottAdams wrote:This was one of my personal favorites in the classic 12. Let me know what you think after you play it!

Thanks cmb-warrior!cbm-warrior wrote:Searching this?
So it is a arcade adventure similar to Zok's Kingdom. I am totally stuck though as I can't seem to pick up items.
I checked a video of the C16 version and as usual I think Udo's limited graphical skills were a better fit for Vic than C16 & C64.

Re: Adventureland XL
This reminds me that I must finish the original Adventureland. I started playing it on Vic a few years ago and got quite far but I never finished it. I still have the map so it should be easy to resume playing.

Re: Robots Rumble released
Game completed! I would like to point out that I have only used save states as check points between planets and not for single screens/levels, Far cheating IMO :) There are not exactly an abundance of action puzzlers for the Vic, so this is really superb addition to its library! Yes, a very sparsely...

Re: Robots Rumble released
Controls made to confuse  But persistance pays off as the game gets much more interesting after a while. Save states are highly recommended - it is not fun at all to re-play those early levels. Every new planet adds new elements/mechanics. I am at planet 4. Very well made graphics and, as is o...

Re: Super Mario Bros for VIC-20
I too felt a strong urge to play Giana Sisters after SMB64. An exact copy of SMB is obviously taxing for C64. For example, four sprites are wasted on the purely visual effect of smashing a block of bricks. Gianna seems like a much more realistic option for Vic, but a mini-SMB that is limited in scop...

Re: Tenebra Macabre
I have completed it... I retreated to save states but I did not completely misuse them so it was still challenging and, most importantly, very enjoyable. It's funny how well 'crude' retro games work as escapism. Very thick atmosphere in this one. Thanks again for the game!

Re: Tenebra Macabre
Thanks, I have collected 10 candles so I have got a good taste of how the game works. As I said, it's quite a stand-out. Smooth, fast, good looking, but also very eccentric. I guess many will be put off by the unusual jumping, claustrophobic sight sphere, and the rare & short flashes. However, o...

Re: Tenebra Macabre
I'm playing it now. It goes without saying that it is an impressive game for Vic and quite a stand-out in many ways. The only thing that compares, as in feeling and style, are some of Misfit's games. I need to play it a bit more before I leave additional feedback. How many candles are there?

Re: "joystick killer games" for the VIC20?
Those games are sadly missing for Vic. Vic's popularity was in steep decline when the multi event & joystick waggling genre rose to prominence. I made several very simple Basic coded and keyboard controlled track & field games for myself to fill the void back in the days. Villain is the only...

Re: Trained VIC20 Games , Cheatcodes and Trainer Pokes
If ever a game required a trainer, it is Forbidden Tower. A very impressive late Vic game that is completely ruined by the insane difficulty level.
Some of the other trainers, like Fire Galaxy and Bongo, seem very much justified too.

It's been ages since I played it but it does sound very attractive from your description of the levels. I will fire it up on emulator when I have the time - hopefully soon.

Re: Fixing Star Defence
As far as I remember this is the most playable Defender clone for Vic. I am partial to Jeff Minter's Defenda (aka Agressor) as I got it for Christmas, but Star Defence is better. I especially like the scaling of the small player ship and the big enemies (the opposite of Defenda) and as you say, the ...
