It's my understanding that good quality dot matrix printer ribbons contain lubricant for the print head. I've seen some sources advocating the use of WD-40, but I'm skeptical. I'm also skeptical of using ink pads to re-ink ribbons. I noticed Staples had a similar sized ribbon for around $8, looks li...

Perhaps the pins are just seized? I know in the past, I'd remove a seized print head, soak it overnight in rubbing alcohol, and then give it a shot of WD-40. That usually did the trick. I'm not sure if it's wise to open them up.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I made a recent discovery. I searched various forums and websites, and found that my discovery hasn't already been discovered, and to the best of my knowledge it hasn't, and it relates to this topic, so I'll add on to this one instead of creating a new thread....

As far as I'm concerned, the Vic 20 and Commodore 64 are essentially the same machine. The Commodore 64 is a Vic 20 with the upgrades many Vic 20 owners wanted: A 40 column display and greater memory. Other than that, it's essentially the same machine, with the same 16 colours, same BASIC V2.0, same...

It was great to meet you in person, Jeff. I would have liked to have talked with you more. I did a write-up and mentioned your excellent presentation.

I hope we run into each other again in the future.

What are you talking about? I wasn't the one with a problem, Paul. I was responding to amramsey 's comment. I agreed with him that the list was short enough to paste, so one could take a quick glance at it with out clicking a link. While your comment may have been a reply to amramsey's comment, it ...

Is the problem that he linked to my forum, or that he chose to use links to these lists in his post? I've scanned the forums, and it appears that using links (rather than reproducing the same information over again) tends to be the way most people prefer to share information here. There is certainly...

It's the one where you traded me that tape for that tape drive, right?

The VZ300 looks like typical VTech junk, but worse! I sincerely hope nobody pays good money for this landfill fodder.

Considering that an 80GB hard drive is likely to fail at any given moment in this day and age (unlike a vintage baseball card, coin, vase, or other collectible which can be enjoyed for generations to come), and also considering that, unlike most collectibles (including the Vic 20 and Commodore 64), ...

Last night, I had a dream that Jeff stopped by my cottage for a visit. He brought with him an old, obscure tape that had various utilities on it that he was going to give to me. I looked around for a cassette drive to try it out in, and I saw a 3rd party one that, in my dream, I picked up a while ag...

To quote Eslapion from 2008 "Replacing the two small capacitors between the paddle lines and the 6560 is the only solution I can think of. That's just the standing theory for the cause of the jitter right now, though. It's never actually been verified that those capacitors are the cause of the...
