[ Can you imagine if we were introduced to pacman now, not as a kid? Would we know that ghosts are edible? I didn't get to play the original Pacman until I was about 21 (Game Boy Advance Pacman collection), although I had known Pacmania from the age of 12. I see what you mean about the declining at...

I'm finally going to ask; what's the point of Heist? As far as I can see, it's just pure guesswork. You either guess the right ladders or you break your leg. When you get upstairs, you presumably spend an eternity trying to guess the security code. There doesn't seem to be any skill involved. I was ...

I've noticed that there are a lot of VC-20s in the UK (I personally own two and I've seen a lot more on eBay). At the same time, they seem to come in the standard UK packaging and look like they were bought in the UK (one box I have has a shop sticker that is clearly from an English electronics stor...

I tried to open it up, but I got in a bit of a tangle. Fortunately, I managed to put it back together without causing any serious damage (although I must have misaligned the casing somewhere because there are three screws left over that I was unable to fit back in). What's the best way to approach o...

Thanks for your help, guys. As it turns out, my A1200 doesn't have a hard drive; I just took the words hard disk to mean hard drive. Tone007 thinks my floppy drive just needs a clean with either a disk cleaner or a q tip and isopropyl alcohol. This appears to be confirmed by the seller who said he g...

I keep a copy of the OED and a spelling dictionary at my desk. Non-native speakers often do quite well in English language/literature classes because they question things that native speakers take for granted. I suspect this is because they have to consciously learn the language instead of just pick...

Amiga 1200 Problems

I've just bought an Amiga 1200 and discovered that neither the hard drive or the floppy disk drive work -- all I get is the purple disk screen. Anyone have an idea of what the problem might be and how it can be resolved? I've posted on Lemon Amiga and Amiga.org and no one's got back to me yet, so I ...

At Lemon 64, they have a thread with detailed guidance on how to run Star Commander on Windows xp.

I'm still working up the nerve to try this myself. Mike's new sprite editor has given me some impetus in that regard.

Sounds like a good idea. There could even be separate registers for working and non-working VIC-20s with additional links to trusted repair services and guidance on repair procedures.

I've never understood the appeal of the Atari joystick either. I always found it rather stiff and uncomfortable. I use a Cheetah Mach I which handles like a dream.

Another good joystick is the Mindscape Powerplayer. This one is perfect for playing Zool 2.

Predictably, the seller told me to get stuffed. In truth, this is probably for the best. The ST is one more retro-machine than I can afford. I think I'll make do with the Steem Engine for the time being.

I never thought of that. I just bought an Atari ST for 99p from a seller in Derbyshire who wanted a local pick-up. I sent a couple of messages asking about P&P but he didn't respond. I decided to bid anyway. The item is too far away for me to collect so I've offered £20 for postage and packing. ...

I have another criticism. There are too many extra lives available; especially on the levels where you can die and then quickly get your life back -- if you did that all day you could really run your score up. I would reduce the amount of extra lives in the game and turn them into continues. That wa...

I ordered my copy last night. I've just been playing the ROM emulation and it's a really good game. I think it would have been better with a time limit on each level (food for thought on any update or sequel).
