Christmas 1981.
My younger brother's mate Cubso had a ZX81. The moment I played with it I knew I had found my calling - a simple page of typed instructions, and a game appeared - steering a V between scrolling *s.
Mum and dad bought me a VIC that Christmas - colour, and over three times the memory!

It's not exactly fast or furious, unfortunately :D

Hey but now starting it manually (double click on jar file from windows) it autorun Whack-E ?!?! I don't know about normal, but it's expected, since I put in a load "http://www.kweepa.com/step/vic20/whack-e/whack-e.prg" to test it. Now that I know people are running it stand-alone, I'll r...

C64, Speccy, Vic, Zx81, Dragon 32, BBC B would probably feature in UK. I'd say the UK list would be (in order of release date): Speccy C64 Electron Amstrad CPC Amiga/ST The VIC was big, but not for long enough to make the top 5. [EDIT: I replaced the Beeb with it's stepchild the Electron, since it ...

I didn't mean to disparage your work!
It looks awesome.
It's like you've designed your ideal 8-bit computer! (Minus the sound.)

Hello.
I fixed JarVIC to run Whack-E.

The new jar is at http://www.kweepa.com/step/vic20/JarVIC052.jar

The problem was $90XY, X=1-F, was not mapping to $900Y. Sneaky Aleksi!

Cheers!

Saving high scores from the game although not technically impossible would be very hard. Either the game and the emulator or the emulator would need to be modified to retrieve the score from the game. Then that would need to be passed to some database that the page pulls from to display the high sc...

If you're interested, there is a great BBC4 dramatization of the Acorn/Sinclair "war" called Micro Men. It's "available" on-line :)
