I'm afraid you probably have serious damage in addition to what you can see. The inductor attached to the socket is a passive component. I would have thought the rectifier that converts AC to DC would also have been destroyed. No, I don't think so. According to the schematic at ftp://www.zimmers.ne...

Time to get out the soldering Iron, Multimeter, Vic-20 schematic, and get testing. A 4A fuse would suffice for testing purposes only, get a proper 3.15A part if You get it up and running. It may help to know where You are, also post a pic of the mainboard so we have a clue what revision You have. C...

It's funny how that ad is for a "NTSC VIC chip", while the text states that it is for "PAL systems only, see elsewhere for NTSC". I think it's better to drop few lines at the seller before striking the deal. 25 pounds is LOT of money! Just buy another VIC20 from eBay and you get...
