Not sure on that one. I assume so. I only have three VIC-20's and out of the three, I've only taken the keyboard apart in two of them. They both had springs.naujoks wrote:I see, and there's a version of the VIC that doesn't have springs?

Re: Vic-20... still keeps on tickin'
Nice collection Brad. I follow many of your posts over at 6502.org. I also have a PET (8032) that recently the monitor died (or maybe just some caps..not sure yet). So if you decide to power up that PET, whatever you do....don't leave it unattended! It took two days for the stink to leave my house a...

Re: fixed my keyboard
What's a springless keyboard? A keyboard without springs. lol Seriously, many keyboards (especially cheaper keyboards from the 80's) didn't use springs to push the key back up when you pressed it and let go. Instead, they would use rubber domes. Which was much cheaper than all of those metal springs.

Re: Additional Sound Chip Suggestions...
I didn't realize that about the Pokey chips. I might order a few of those just to have. Yeah, the AY chips are still pretty easy to get. But I'm not aware of any modern (still made) equivalents. Do you have an example? Anyway, I may end up using emulation because the micro-controller I want to use h...

Re: Additional Sound Chip Suggestions...
Haven't had much experience with OPL3 chips.
I have a few of them in my drawer so maybe I could look into them more.

Re: Additional Sound Chip Suggestions...
Pokey is nice. But, it's really hard/expensive to find without gutting an Atari (which I won't do). SID is also expensive. Fortunately, there are a few emulation options which are really great. Not perfect...but "good enough" for a SID on a VIC-20. The AY and SN I could either emulate or u...

Additional Sound Chip Suggestions...
I love chip tunes. I know the SID is the big king in these parts (and for good reason) but that doesn't stop me from loving other sound chips like the AY-3-8910 and the SN76489. I also love being "period accurate" as much as I can. Meaning, a 64 voice polyphony sound system on a VIC-20 wou...

Re: I/O Addresses
Ok, try to follow my idea...... Target: a way to permit at software to set the bank address of the cartridge. Immagine:periferics or memory expansion (RAM/ROM) use every decoded lines (I/O2, I/O3, /BLKs, /RAMs...) My solution: take a serial in parallel out (SIPO) schift register that has this input...

Re: Game cartridge faulty from new
The fact that you could open the cart up and fix it yourself shows the difference in both technology and the overall culture from then and now. Try opening up a PS4 and fixing something on it. I miss those days. And while I admit the graphics/audio of modern computers and consoles are amazing, I sim...

Re: I/O Addresses
Sorry for the delay. Those are some great responses. Thanks. One thing I didn't mention is that I would like to eventually implement soft-switches in my designs. I like the idea of setting the positions in software, burning to an EEPROM, etc. So I have some more research ahead... I also wished we ha...

Re: Sega Light Phaser
I've made that adapter before for my C64 for Genesis controllers.
I don't think that is needed for Sega Master System controllers though. I could be wrong.
I believe the Light Phaser is just a SMS controller with the directionals not connected.

Sega Light Phaser
Hello all. I got a Sega Light Phaser for my birthday and I thought it would be fun to see if I could get it to work on the VIC-20. The following program doesn't really work: 10 H=36870 15 V=36871 20 PRINT PEEK(H), PEEK(V) 30 GOTO 20 It just prints 129 and 0. Every now and then, when I press the butt...

I/O Addresses
Hello! It's been a REALLY long time since I've been able to post to this forum. Despite owning a VIC-20 for the last 10+ years, I've never really used them very much. But I've recently developed a strong interest in using them. ;-) Anyway... I'm toying with the idea of creating a custom add-on cartr...

First time poster here. I wished I could find some people in the SE, USA that are into Vic, Atari, etc. I first bought a Vic-20 off of eBay a few years ago from a man in Nova Scotia. It came in a box with ELEVEN KEYS broken off. Plus, it was FILTHY. I email the guy and he said it "must have hap...
