Re: Vic 20 black screen :(

Recently I got a VIC 20 with the same symptoms. After checking all the voltage stuff ... Take a closer look to the black screen on power on if the screen is turned on very bright. If the VIC chip is still working (kind of) you will see some vertical ghost patterns all over the screen in character in...

No one would ever be tempted to code this, but the handling is wrong. There should be a ?TYPE MISMATCH at line 10.
More curiosities regarding IF can be found in the german C64-Wiki (the english version isn't up-to-date).

Re: BASIC 3.5 on a VIC?

since token lookup basically translates to a table lookup, more instructions only mean using a bigger table - the speed difference is negligible. what makes it slow on C128 is the bank switching being done all the time. Also to mention is the more elaborate interrupt processing. Commands with backg...

Re: ?FORMULA TOO COMPLEX

Not relevant in real use, but some V2 bugs may provoke a string descriptor stack overflow leading to a ?FORMULA TOO COMPLEX error. PRINT POS("") PRINT POS("") PRINT POS("") Throws the error on the 3rd one. In contrast to POS() FRE() doesn't test the dummy argument type ...

Re: New Floppy Days Podcast #70 - Interview with Michael Tomczyk, Leader of the Vic-20 Commando Team

A really amazing interview, stories with insights one wouldn't belief, if this wasn't Michael Tomczyk. :D
Just one single interview which explains all of the core Vic-20 history, which I wanted to know all the years.

Re: Introduce Yourself: What's your User Name based on?

Just to follow on here, I'll try to introduce myself: In 1983 VIC-20 was my 2nd home computer (after a Sinclair ZX-81). A magic time, a computer with colors, sound, joystick, a fast machine ... but the isolation took its toll, no buddy with a VIC-20 around, everyone headed to the C64. Just spent 1 1...

Re: VIC-1211 Super Expander WITHOUT 3K

Yep, typically the blue "V" on a white background was used on early boxes of VIC hardware, including the VIC itself. I believe most stuff was made Japan, but maybe also some early Western product was packaged like that. I really didn't know there was a 1211 Super Expander without the 3K R...
