Ah, if by scart you mean RF, RF is worse. This is the AV connection.
I suspect it might be normal, so I'm going to try a S-Video conversion to see if that fixes it.

Is this a normal looking video output?

I've just bought a Vic 20 and it's image out looks like this:

Since I don't have another vic to test on my lcd tv, does it look right?

It looks like colour causes the pixels to be off.

I'm confused. In the n schematic it shows an audio in on Y, just next to CA13. Is it not really there?

Funny, I remember when I was real young my Vic 20's power supply went. And I stuffed tinfoil in the fuse socket...
Number of times I've stuck metal in sockets as a child, I'm surprised I'm still alive.

I can't seem to find him with internet searches, to many Als out there. And thinking about it, he must be about 70ish+ by now, I wonder if he's still alive and kicking?

Al Charpentier and the VIC chip Question

Hi guys,

Has anyone ever spoken to the designer of the VIC chip and maybe checked if the design still exists? Could be very usefull to know exactly how it's working internally, and have it saved for eternity.

Cheers,
Matt
