Anybody getting a "Penultimate Cartridge"?

What do you guys think of the VIC-20 Penultimate Cartridge? Apparently it's now available: https://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/commodore/pu-vic20.html If I didn't already have a FE3 cart that I'm currently assembling, I'd consider getting this, although to be honest the price is a bit steep. It's ...

Re: Introduce Yourself: What's your User Name based on?

Fuzzybad is simply my online handle.. here, there, everywhere. I've used it for years. Where I got the name is pretty silly. Many years ago I used the Gamespy handle generator, and it spit out "Fuzzybad-Mofo". For whatever reason, I thought this was cute and began using it for online games...

Re: New release: Dropout

One of the best Tetris clones I've played on Commodore 8-bit. I love that pieces don't stick immediately and that down doesn't immediately stick the piece to the bottom (features missing from just about every Tetris I've played on C64). Bonus that it works on NTSC and PAL, and all in 3k. Well done!

Re: WIP - VICrossroads

Dumb question - what is a 'WIP' -- does that stand for 'Write-In Port'?

Looking forward to seeing more of these!

Re: WIP - VICrossroads

This is wonderful - probably my favorite type-in game from Compute's Gazette and you've done a great job porting it!

Can't wait to try this on my real VIC over the weekend.. :)

Re: MegaCart.. Getting the ball rolling.

You can run cart images on a SD2IEC..? I thought it was just D64 and PRG.? what file type? Is there an equivalent to to c64s .T64 file type?. The SD2IEC is a mass storage device, it doesn't emulate cartridges or cassettes. One could load cartridge images from any Commodore drive, for example a 1541...

Re: MegaCart.. Getting the ball rolling.

I also ordered a MegaCart in 2013 and am still waiting for my turn in the queue. Same here, I've been waiting at least since 2013 (or 2014, I forget). I did receive a confirmation mail last year, confirming that I would like a MegaCart, so apparently I'm in the queue.. :) Definitely order a Behr Bo...

Looks like it's an early two-prong model, but not so early to show PET style keys. Also, I've never (ever) seen this box before, and sure I did see some!
This is the same box as my old VIC (with PET-style keys)

Re: 24 euro VIC-20

Always nice when you buy a computer advertised as "not working" only to discover that it works perfectly. :) I've had this happen twice recently; I picked up a VIC-20 from eBay advertised as non-working for $6 because I needed a spare keyboard; and I picked up a 64C in 'unknown' condition,...

Re: SD2IEC & 'comfort loader'

Sounds like you got your file manager working, but another option would be to use JiffyDOS for VIC-20.

Then those tedious disk commands become easy:

@CD:MYGAME.D64

Re: PET keys?

This is quite interesting, my VIC has a much lower serial #, but the badge says Made in USA and it doesn't have the FCC notice sticker.

Perhaps each Commodore manufacturing center used their own sequence of serial numbers, so that (for example) 500,000 Japan comes before 65,000 USA?

Re: PET keys?

Hard to tell for sure from that picture, but it appears to be a 'PET keys' model. What's the serial #? Does it work?

I have one of these too, here's a pic for comparison.

Re: Repairing an old VIC

Great news, I replaced the 7406 chip and it resolved my serial port issues. Still need to figure out some way to get the keyboard working better, some keys are ok but others have to be pounded on repeatedly. While I was under the hood I replaced the primary capacitors, and noticed it gets incredibly...

Got my Behr-Bonz cart in the post and have checked out a few games so far. It works great! Love the menu page select with 1-8 keys.

Any easter eggs for us to discover?

How about tips for mounting the reset button inside a case?

Re: Repairing an old VIC

I just tried piggybacking a 7406 chip on top of the one in my VIC. It didn't help. I'll study the schematic some more and see what's attached to the serial bus lines. I see there are a couple of transistors on the board just to the left of the video section. I wonder if possibly a bad transistor or ...
