Re: Worst VIC game ever! A definitive list.

The commercial Basic game serves a very specific function that straddles the market of game player and aspiring game maker and even the game modder (gameshark proves the viability of that market). A fair point, Jeff. That did not occur to me. However, I would only add that in such a case, the BASIC...

Re: Worst VIC game ever! A definitive list.

I agree... pretty much every Basic Game sold in stores was crap. I remember a company called "ALA Software" who cranked out games back in the early 80's. I bought many of them and they were all written in basic and totally unplayable. I felt as though I got ripped off. Well, I will give y...

Re: Worst VIC game ever! A definitive list.

Any game offered commercially that was written in BASIC is a non-starter for me. For all the reasons why most of us here would realise, the VIC 20 and other old 8 bit systems really only start humming with programs in machine language in order to squeeze out everything the computer has to offer in t...

However, what I want to know is this: Is the game Chinamen any fun?

If so, then "boxed, sealed, unopened" is rather misleading.

Re: Boxed, sealed, unopened Vic-20 and 1530 Datasette Unit

Every now and then we come across such unopened Commodore computers. I only wonder how such things can happen at all. If computer equipment somehow gets forgotten in the back of some company's storage room following a bulk purchase, that is one thing, but you say this was in a private house for 30 y...

Thanks for the help TNT.
And take my comments with a grain of salt; I am always a bit resistant to change, but I appreciate the Denial forum and the efforts in keeping it up.

Re: Update done - please feel free to post

Pretty gay! Well, no, I exaggerate for effect. It looks perfectly fine but I will need to spend time getting used to this. My favourite feature seems to be gone (or at least I cannot find it), namely, the "new posts", "your posts","unread posts", which I am missing. On ...

Re: Sick Ebay sale ONE key...

Ten dollars for a single key? Get out of town! I wonder if anyone is buying these. On the other hand, how much do you need to pay for a new key on a newer computer when the letter has simply worn off? I have seen 4.99 each, and that is just for the pad with a fresh letter painted on. No spring or as...

Re: Backgammon

What did you call Mancala? It was marketed here for some time as "Warri".

I suppose it has some similarity to Backgammon; however, I am not completely familiar with how it is played.

Re: Cygnis - unexpanded text adventure

I hate to throw a spanner in the works, but I found a fundamental error. Namely, the constellation is "Cygnus" (or swan), not "Cygnis". It is masculine 2nd declension. In the genitive it is Cygni. Cygnis would be plural dative or ablative. It might be too late to change it. Perha...

Re: Brainstorm: The benefit of having two disc drives

Had a quick look, but I couldn't actually find any disk copying software for the Vic? Jim Butterfield developed a routine for such, as mentioned in the "Programming the VIC" book found on Bombjack. The question now is still to find it. There are a couple of cludgy ways to go about this as...
