Re: BASIC support for odd screen sizes

Hi Mike! I loved those escape key window functions on the Plus/4 - very useful for editing Vic programs written in 22x23 screen. Will be great if they can be adapted to the Vic as well. Just want to keep it all within 3k, so I'll probably have around 1.5k left to work with. I've noticed someone has ...

Re: BASIC support for odd screen sizes

Hi Tokra good to see you too!

Yes your link shows exactly what I was looking for.. looks like I'm reinventing the wheel so to speak.

I may or may not keep going with this.. I learned more about the Vic's firmware than I ever really wanted to this last week..!

Cheers

BASIC support for odd screen sizes

Hi all, nothing like a global shutdown to bring some ideas to fruition. I've been tinkering with this over the last week or so, if something else that does this already exists, please feel free to stop me immediately! I'm working on a wedge that will enable full 'native' support of different screen ...

Sorry for lack of reply, I only just found where Denial is lurking..

..I rewrote the joystick input routine where the hidden code would have been.. having said that I wasn't aware there was a code!

Re: MiniMans20: my BASIC V2 10-liner (max 80 chars per line)

This specific game is built around the trick (not mine) that lets you create a scroll-down effect by tricking the editor into believing that all the lines below the first one are continuations of a huge logical line (see the detail code explaination in the repository). . I hadn't seen this trick pr...

Re: MiniMans20: my BASIC V2 10-liner (max 80 chars per line)

Nice work!

What's the best way to go about this kind of thing - do you come up with the game and then just optimise, optimise, optimise?

..Or do you first think of a particularly ingenious and tight routine and build the game around it?

Looks fantastic, will give it a go this weekend.

Also.. ports for C64 *and* 264 series, that is quite an effort.

Re: Games we want to see

I was looking through the games for the vic, and there's a glaring ommision. No Beat em Ups. Correct me if I'm wrong, this could do with a "scrolling" beat-em-up like Double Dragon or Golden Axe. One problem is only one fire button so only punching no jumping, unless maybe you could do a ...

Re: (Vic) Avenger large screen hack

I've created three difficulty settings - easy, normal and hard. The difficulty affects the height of the invaders, and the speed of their missiles. I've set the default to 'easy', as that's likely the only mode I'd play as well  Press F3 while on the title screen to select the difficulty mode....

Re: (Vic) Avenger large screen hack

(Edit: You'd probably have to line up the Vic score with the arcade score line two lines lower for it to be a closer comparison)

Interesting, the original Avenger is closer to the arcade than I thought.

I'm tempted to implement a difficulty setting like in the 64 version.

Re: (Vic) Avenger large screen hack

What a nice idea! I'm always fond of using a larger screen-area on the VIC, especially on the PAL-version. There are a few games that make use of it. As a child I loved to play "Fire Galaxy" by Kingsoft, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCDJySQKXJ4 Yes there were quite a few - AC...
