ROM Kernal routines that control inserting lines of characters?
I presume on the VIC20 going to the top of a screen and pressing the insert key will push down the entire screen by 1 character. The opposite of what happens when you do a print statement when the cursor is on the last row. On the C64 you can use this as a simple hack to do a reverse scroll, the opp...

Re: A good book or written piece about large resolutions on VIC?
Thanks, will have to check it out. Got a bit side-tracked lately on a WIP I like to call The PETSCII with no name. Was a little disappointed with The Wild Bunch on C64, not quite how I imagined nod towards open world/sandbox game on an 8bit micro.....so I decided to see how far I could take that wit...

Working PRGs or TAP of Luv Bug?
I tried to play the only TAP I could find and the one I already have on VICE and theC64 and it fails in an identical way on both, anybody have a working copy?
I did a video on it a decade ago but that PC hard drive is long gone sadly.

Re: A good book or written piece about large resolutions on VIC?
Thanks for the help :) Should have said I will be doing it on a PAL machine and we're going for 28-30 columns, which I will test on my old early 80s/late 70s goldfish bowl CRTs. It's just a proof of concept really, might as well do parallel dev work for C64 and VIC. You might need a goldfish bowl CR...

Re: Three more games for the unexpanded VIC
I remember when I wanted to do a Gauntlet game I was going to call it Dauntless because it was going to be like the arcade on maximum difficulty setting for enemy ferocity.
Keep it up

Brilliant, and with a 2 player only game engine it could have been twice as fast maybe?tokra wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 8:05 amhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJKkjxeSKcw

Re: Is there a V/H scrolling Football game for the VIC?
Not only Football games - there is a distinct lack of sports games as a whole on the Vic. There are a few type-ins but almost no commercial ones. I always dreamt of Track & Field for the Vic but Villain (cop chasing robber) was the closest I got. Yeah, that's really a thing I noticed too. Becau...

Re: VIDEO: TheVIC-20 vs Commodore VIC-20
I remember all the flags were set correctly for Pulse and yet that thing refused to work....but Chuckie Egg, Manic Miner and Popeye worked fine but neither the TAPs or PRGs of Pulse worked but work fine on my usual install of VICE 2.4 for the VIC-20. Tried NTSC and PAL TAPs and PRGs and 8k and 16k. ...

A good book or written piece about large resolutions on VIC?
The way the VIC20 display works fascinates me, always hated fixed borders on C64. I managed to find out the memory locations to change the size of the screen but not taken it any further. I plan to learn 6502 machine code programming next year anyway (C64) and wouldn't mind trying to port some early...

Is there a V/H scrolling Football game for the VIC?
I decided for this Xmas, the last on my channel, I would play loads of VIC20 games. I had a VIC20 only for 3 months, the PSU failed and the shop had no more in stock so offered us a full refund AND if we spent that refund on a C64 (80 quid more I think) they would let us keep the datasette (45 quid ...

Re: VIDEO: TheVIC-20 vs Commodore VIC-20
I have used theC64 for about 18 months, and if you know my Youtube channel you know I used to play more Commodore games than anybody, about 500-1000 game videos a year. (channel is closing so this is not a plug for my channel!) I would recommend theC64 fullsize for C64 users who want to write progra...

Should the VIC have had a true successor over the C16?
Do you think a VIC-20 compatible machine should have been produced instead of the Commodore 16? I have read the VIC was nothing more than smoke and mirrors to throw the Japanese off the scent of what C= were really working on and hence prevent hardware piracy (unlikely given the complexity of VIC-II...
