Re: Background change at Raster Location
I just loved this into vice and it didn't do anything. I'm not sure what happened. I tried PAL and NTSC Here's my take on the problem, using a single timer this time: vicrast.prg The idea is that as you can load the T1 latches through $9126/$9127, I just preload those on each interrupt and then auto...

Re: Background change at Raster Location
chysn.... Your code was so similar to what I was doing before coming back here to ask for help. My code below simply blinks and doesn't do any raster timing at all. Anyone see anything I am missing in the code? I have so many questions. I've documented the code the best I can and have questions in t...

Re: Background change at Raster Location
I've spent a week off and on reading up on the timers and trying to figure this out. It is beyond me. I cannot figure out how to code Mike's idea. Can someone help me? I even looked at Raeto Collin West's VIC book and he seems to do the wait for the VIC+$04 method. I just cannot wrap my brain around...

I've been able to make a bit more sense of this today and am not playing with it. I'll report back.

Re: Background change at Raster Location
Mike: First of all, THANK you for your time. When I saw your reply with the algorithm I told my wife that I feel so lost and inadequate with understanding this stuff. She smiled and guffawed at me. Your nice screen print is what I want...... I really want to learn so I am going to ask questions. &qu...

Re: Background change at Raster Location
I am just starting an unexpanded game. Yes, it will do other interrupt activities for moving objects around. Let me be clear: The code I provided in the OP is not the right way to do this. It was my first draft. I have another draft, and I'm trying to find it for you. It's not on my SD card for some...

Re: Background change at Raster Location
Do you have a cc65 version of the routine or did you use the same compiler that Marko uses? Could I see JUST the code you used? I used Markos raster routine in my Mario Demo . I found it worked pretty much out-of-the box, although as Mike mentioned it wastes a few cycles. Suggest starting with a new...

Re: Background change at Raster Location
I need help. :D 1. I am trying to follow chysn's code ideas and I think I have learned a bit about it. 2. I found Marko Makela's writeup at https://codebase64.org/doku.php?id=base%3Amaking_stable_raster_routines&do=export_pdf It was too complex for me to follow very well. A lot was due to my usi...

Large Collection - Considering getting rid of it
I'm going through a time of simplifying in many ways and am seriously considering parting with an absolutely HUGE collection of Commodore equipment and software. If you are looking to acquire a large piece of Commodore history then I might be worth reaching out to. I have loved this stuff for years ...

Canadian Vic-20 Question
I have this VIC-20 that has not been altered. It has dark gray function keys and I have not seen this variant before. Does anyone have any knowledge about the difference in function key colors? I've included a few pictures.
