Re: My PET 4032 is dead

Sorry to hear that. I had a similar experience with my PET 8032 (http://forum.6502.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4586).

However, are you sure it's the AC transformer? Those things are usually pretty stable and last for decades (although, it's been decades since that 4032 was made...).

Re: GandALF, substitute for the MOS 325572-01

one major problem is that in a C64 (unlike in many other systems) the VIC plays an integral role in the system, when it doesnt work (at least halfway) right, then *nothing* works. you must get all the external timing perfectly right before you can even try it out in a C64 - in practise that means f...

Re: GandALF, substitute for the MOS 325572-01

I suppose it was possible to make drop-in subs for the SID because the pace at which it generates signals is so much lower than a video chip so programming on a very fast microcontroller was enough to compensate for a lack of EE knowledge. You can't get away with this with a video chip. Yeah, I'm n...

Re: GandALF, substitute for the MOS 325572-01

Creating replicas of the VIC-I or VIC-II is incredibly difficult. These chip's internal structure is very poorly documented and in the case of the VIC-I, I can only raise my hat off to lance.ewing for the job he has done so far in this area. I completely agree. Same goes for the SID. We have some e...

Re: Ultima - IT'S BACK... Race you to it!

That's nothing. Insane...but nowhere near the craziness collectors will pay. I once saw an NES game (World Championship Gold) **SELL** for over $100K USD. I mean....someone actually paid it. Well, I assume the deal went through...eBay listed it as ended with a final bid of over $100K. I have a scree...

Re: GandALF, substitute for the MOS 325572-01

I think this is a great idea. And I LOVE the name. :-)

Now, if someone would do a drop-in replacement for the VIC-II (and VIC-I) that would be awesome. Something along the lines of what the F18a (TMS9918) did for Coleco, MSX, etc.

Re: Additional Sound Chip Suggestions...

I agree, especially since they are still available from Best Electronics. I just thought that I'd throw that tidbit of trivia out there, in case the zombie apocalypse happens and you're in desperate need of a pokey. I appreciate that. I didn't know you could get them from BE. I've looked on eBay be...

Re: Additional Sound Chip Suggestions...

Pokey chips were also included in some Atari 7800 cartridges to make up for the poor TIA sound. I believe 7800 Ballblazer is the most common. That is true. But, I would never gut a classic piece of hardware for something like this. Those Pokey chips should stay in the games they were meant to be in...

I second your thoughts. I have fun watching at most of his videos, but rarely find something I really didn't know. But his videos are well done, and make me want to get back home and fire up my beasts :). I must thank him mainly for this reason. That's my point exactly. I enjoy him enough to keep w...

Re: I don't think anyone will be buying this VIC...

That was pretty ugly but not the worst I've seen. I just got a IIc today that is about that bad (even worse if you count the monitor and printer that I now have to clean). Yeah, eBay is total crap these days. Unfortunately, its about the only place I can buy vintage computers. Most of my collection ...

Re: 8bit Guy covers Super Expander and Prom Queen

The "8-bit Guy" has some nice videos. I subscribe to his videos (used to be a Patreon supporter too). Most of his videos are hit-or-miss with me. None of them make me jump up and yell "WOW!". Being an "8-bit guy" myself since 1982, I feel I'm pretty knowledgeable in the...

Re: fixed my keyboard

Perhaps he does.

I know this is taboo on this forum...but today I just received an Apple IIc that is more dirt than computer. I can't wait to restore it. Especially since I've cleaned up two VIC-20's lately to near mint condition. :-D

More than 32K??

Bill Gates once said that 640K is all any VIC-20 would ever need. Wait...he said 32K is all that it would ever need....Wait...he actually didn't say anything remotely like that.... LOL On a serious note, I've noticed that the VIC-MIDI cart has well over 32K of RAM (1MB, IIRC) that would be banked sw...
