S-Video from the VIC
Here it is: S-Video from the VIC. Firstly the usual disclaimer: Do not perform this mod unless you are have a good knowledge of electronics. Remember to perform the usual antistatic procedures. Bear in mind your VIC may be a different version to the one shown here. And of course, I will not be held ...

Ha! Small world. I realize there different but if it's possible with the PAL 520, it's logical to assume it's possible with the NTSC one. Theoretically it wouild be possible, as both versions use the same encoder chip, but the rest of the circuit and parts layout is completely different. If I had a...

As long as I'm off-topic I might as well mention that there is a way to modify a PAL A520 to output S-video. You can read more about it here . I'm very interested in seeing this hack made to work on an NTSC 520. If you have any queries on that, ask me.... I'm the author of that hack too. I can't he...

My first idea was to get such a cable out the datasette port. However, after gklinger's suggestion, I think it would be possible to mod a VIC to remove the 5 pin DIN connector and replace it with an 8 pin connector and get the same output configuration as a Commodore 64 with both the composite and ...

Looks like I have created quite a debate here! Of course, I have the luxury of owning two VICs, so modifying one is not a real problem. ;-) Of course it is possible to do my mod without cutting PCB tracks...but the result is rather messy looking in that one would need a S-video cable hanging out the...

You were 'loading' down the video circuit by having the two connectors at the one time. Video circuits are designed to work into a 75 ohm load, without the load, the picture will be too bright, with more than the correct load it will be too dim (two loads will be 37.5 ohms). Kind of like running mor...

Bumping an old thread, now that we have a new member that once modified his VIC-20 for S-video output. While the signals are there on the VIC chip, I don't know if any amplification is required or if they could be tapped directly to some output connector. If I had one spare VIC to break, I would tr...

Welcome a4000bear. I'm an Amiga user (still) too. An A2000 is my machine for creative/productivity work. As to the S-Video hack on your VIC, if you can remember ANYTHING about how to do that, I'm sure many of us here would be excited to hear about it. The poor video on the VIC (especially the bandi...

G'day from Australia.
I was an old-time VIC user way back in 1981 or '82. So long ago I can't remember which! I do still remember the day I bought my VIC home, I was up till 4AM typing and playing the three BASIC lisitings in the back of the user manual. Being heavily into electronics, I did not buy a cassette unit, I mo...
