Re: Art nouveau graphics on the VIC

I started from a 192x125 sized image, but then I realized that the pixel ratio was not correct on the real VIC. http://davbucci.chez-alice.fr/varie/vic20mucha/mucha.png I then had to stretch it by adopting the 176x160 pixel size. My pencil on paper copy had already a slightly less oval, and I wanted...

Re: Art nouveau graphics on the VIC

The silk screen aspect of Art Nouveau translates quite well to the capabilities of the VIC-20. Indeed, I found that the VIC-20 palette is quite nice for this kind of things. Some technical suggestions: you really should consider using the size of a MINIGRAFIK bitmap (160x192). This is slightly more...

Thanks, that's it. I put colours on the flowers, but the head should definitely be of the same colour of the wings!

Re: Art nouveau graphics on the VIC

(Crits: the eyes look a little sleepy; is that an angry anteater in the top left?) Eyes are quite difficult to draw. I have multicolour characters there and the resolution is quite low. I tried to do what I could. On the top left, I believe it's an eagle. My girlfriend noticed that it should share ...

Art nouveau graphics on the VIC

Hi, I'm not a very good pixel artist, but this weekend I enjoyed played a little with the VIC hi res mode. I am thinking using that as a splash/loader screen for a future game. Here is the result: http://davbucci.chez-alice.fr/varie/vic20mucha/mucha_screenshot_t.jpg Here is the small program, I test...

Re: Plus4 / C16 CPU replacement chip

As a Plus/4 owner*, I'm very happy to see that an alternative for a hard-to-source chip is being developed with success.

Thumbs up!

* mine still works, for the moment...

Re: Two Days to the Race

3 languages, 7.5 platforms = update headache! Yes, things become complicated, but after all I can compile with a few "make all" commands, it's not a big deal, after all. The problem I have now is that I have to split the game in three parts for some platforms (VIC-20, Spectrum 48K, C128, ...

Re: Two Days to the Race

I'm Italian, but having lived almost half of my life in France I'm now practically bilingual. My girlfriend is French, so I can ask her when I have doubts. However, I don't know how to handle accents and other diacritical marks on the VIC-20 and on other 8-bit machines. I must extend the character c...

Re: Two Days to the Race

Thank you very much highinfidelity and orion70! Yes, Emilia has blue eyes, I like the violet-ish shade of the VIC-20 palette. She's brave, intelligent and very determined. I quite like her; I created the character with my girlfriend, who is a historian and among other things has a richly furnished l...

Re: Two Days to the Race

Hi Kweepa! Thank you again for all the very useful corrections you suggested: I will implement them in a few days' time. It's not easy for a non-native English speaker to work on a text adventure game. Thank to your feedback, I think Two Days to the Race will be tremendously improved. I saw you sent...

Re: 40 column routines (split from: Two Days to the Race)

Hi to all, I put together a small example here: https://github.com/DarwinNE/aws2c/tree/master/test_VIC_40ch It's not very difficult to use the 40-column console driver. The example file is as follows: #include "vic40col.h" #define BUFSIZE 38 int main(void) { char buffer[BUFSIZE]; initGraph...

Re: Two Days to the Race

Kudos to Kweepa! He spotted plenty of typos and weird-sounding sentences in the first part of the game. Thanks to him, I corrected some embarrassing errors and learned quite a few expressions. Hopefully, the use of English language in part 1 of the game should now be better. I already updated the di...
