Unique VIC-1001

The VIC-1001 is a unique machine to begin with, but I've come across one that surprises me. This one has a serial number much higher than I would expect for this computer (1303992). Surely Commodore didn't make 1.3 million of these machines? That doesn't seem possible. Also it this one is based on t...

For Sale: 40/80 Column Video Cartridge for Vic

I have listed a 40/80 column video cartridge on eBay for the Commodore VIC-20. I wish I had one of these back in 1983! :D

Re: VIC 20 Hardware Prototype

Something is not right in this picture. There are two cables coming out of the computer, one for the datasette, and the other is apparently a video cable running to the television. So how is this machine powered? There is no power cable anywhere, and yet the computer is supposedly producing the imag...

Re: VCX-1001 - Interesting Item

Is the program to test the signal strength? I had a friend with a TRS-80, which used a standard tape recorder, and I remember him telling me that he had to set the volume exactly right in order for it to work - not too high and not too low. I laughed and said the datasette on my Vic just “works”. I...

VCX-1001 - Interesting Item

Here is an interesting item I picked up recently from Japan: The VCX-1001. I don't know Japanese, but from the bits of English text on the instruction page, it looks like a cassette adapter for the VIC-1001 and PET/CBM. You will notice it was made by HAL Laboratory, the same company that made a lot ...

Re: Cartridge and box variants - help needed

CARTRIDGE LABELS There are three types of labels: 1. Metal label with big text. Only a handful of games have this one. 2. Metal label with "three arrows" graphics. 3. Paper label. I would say Commodore used 8 types of labels for VIC-20 carts, although you may consider some of these except...

Re: Cartridge and box variants - help needed

B-1. Japanese small boxes (blue and red "square root" graphics). Always generic, with a label containing name and code of the game. Sometimes the label is professionally printed, other times it's a simple label printed on a dot matrix printer. I'm sure about Avenger, Rally-X, Pacman, Nigh...

Re: Monopole (Monopoly) VIC + 24K

My dad bought our Commodore 64 in 1982 when it first came out, so there wasn't much in the way of software at the time, and this was the first game we got for our C64. My brother and I spent countless hours playing it. This brings back great memories. This is a great port of the game. It's very true...

Re: Cartridge identity?

Any possibility that the interesting part is hidden somewhere in the chips? I think that would be unlikely given the following: 1. The cartridge contained a ROM rather than an EPROM, as I would have expected in a prototype cartridge. 2. Upon closer inspection, the label was glued on top of another ...

Re: Cartridge identity?

The cartridge has finally arrived and I've tried it out on my VIC. The good news is that it works and will be easy to dump the image. The bad news is ... I'll let the screenshot speak for itself https://s15.postimg.cc/js4s3ss0n/IMG_7720.jpg My only question now is why did Satoru Iwata think "Sp...

Re: Cartridge identity?

Thanks for the advice. The seller responded to me over the weekend and said he would be sending it "soon".
