Re: Free to a good home - lots of Commodore stuff
The mech seems to work perfectly! Apparently, removing the foreign body was all that was needed. :) I don't know about the logic board but I think it should work, judging by the LEDs' behavior when I first turned the drive on. I wanted to install the switching PSU from my mech-less 1571 in your driv...

Re: Free to a good home - lots of Commodore stuff
Hello! At last I had the chance of peeking into the drive. There was a small iron "button", 3 - 4 mm in diameter, stuck to the spinner motor's magnet. That's the reason of the ugly noise. I pulled it out but I think the copper traces got eaten by the button scraping on them in the rotation...

Re: Free to a good home - lots of Commodore stuff
Tsm: Your 1571 (which we already know is not working) is now in the capable hands of Deutsche Post. Let me know once you have received it. Sure, I will. Thank you. I wonder what happened to the VIC20. Maybe it's the PSU's fault. Anyway this old equipment can stop working anytime, like the VIC chip ...

Re: Free to a good home - lots of Commodore stuff
Hello Pitcalco, may I ask you another favor? Before packaging, could you please insert a scrap disk in the drive, turn the lever and block it with adhesive tape? Thank you!

Re: Free to a good home - lots of Commodore stuff
Hello!
I'd like to get the faulty 1571. How much to ship to Italy?
Thank you very much.

Re: Doom Video glitch problem
I'd take the wiring around the 74LS08 under extreme scrutiny. You may want to unwire it from the PCB and test it with some DIP switches, pull-up resistors and a multimeter. Try every combination of the switches on the inputs and see if the outputs are correct. I did just this before putting it in m...

Re: My VIC-20 broke (videos)
Anyway, I can confirm that it's the VIC, as I tested it in another computer and it does the same. You may want to update the chip vs. symptom chart with this fault. Sometimes it will still produce an almost normal picture for just a split second, then the screen turns to all asterisks. I wonder what...

Re: My VIC-20 broke (videos)
Thanks Ian. I'll add some details. - When the screen is readable, the amount of free RAM shown is always correct (even with a RAM expansion) - Blind disk commands work - A 1541 connected to the serial port resets when the VIC20 is switched on - The three MOS65245 were socketed, so I replaced t...

Re: Why disable expanded blocks?
Thank you Mike! I feel relieved reading your recommendations, because that's just what I did in my hack of a Super Expander. It really works, that's crazy.
