Re: Standalone VICMON for 6kB machines

Thanks for the elaborate reply and the suggestions! I must admit I haven't really delved myself into the inner workings of VICMON prior, just fired up a disassembler and recompiled for a new base address. I'm primarily a TED person myself, so that functionality would have been just proper for me, I ...

Re: Standalone VICMON for 6kB machines

Thanks, I managed to load it up on my VIC. I'm sure it's my fault but the commands shown in the video do not appear to work, I am getting a ?SYNTAX ERROR.

Re: "Vic Tricks" program by Jeff Minter

Perhaps you could just record them as a plain mono WAV using any tape device and upload them here. I had some success recovering old tapes using this method (after applying some signal processing in Audacity). I do have an MTAP cable but it requires an old-school parallel port which is kinda hard to...

Standalone VICMON for 6kB machines

Alas, I possess a VIC20 with only a 3 kB RAM Expansion. I have been looking at options how to use an assembler for this machine with so little RAM but found that 1) Tinymon has no assembler 2) Minimon would be great but is cart-only and was not released as a standalone PRG AFAIK 3) VICMON kinda work...

Excellent find, how about dumping the original tape images as well?

Re: Faulty VIC

Small update: it was indeed the BASIC ROM, turned out this friend of mine had a replacement chip after all. And thanks for the tip, it will be socketed ;)

Re: Faulty VIC

Thanks! A local friend of mine offered me help although the replacement ROM might be an issue for him, so cheers for the link!

Re: Faulty VIC

Aaaand.... it works! Yay... so it's the ROM then. Alas, I have double checked and only the KERNAL (901486-07) seems to be socketed, the BASIC ROM (901486-01) - that is the likely culprit here - is soldered :( I fired up my Ebay account to check for a replacement and was shocked how expensive these a...

Re: Faulty VIC

That's a very good idea! I have a Cosmic Cruncher cart somewhere in the attic... gonna go ahead and dig it up... let you know how it went. Faulty ROM would be the "best" option as that's the only socketed IC :D

Faulty VIC

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted on this forum. I have dusted off my good old VIC20 today that used to be in working condition the last time I fiddled with it (around 2017 I believe). To my horror it no longer boots up properly, looks like some part of the circuitry or one of the IC's went b...

VIC-20 Database

Wonderful idea! I love databases :-) When citing examples, let's not forget the Commodore plus/4 database here: http://plus4.emucamp.com Some might think the plus/4 had no software written for it, now we are exceeding 5000 pieces. Something like that for the VIC-20 would be fantastic (GameBase is no...

My VIC has arrived in the post today :) Just playing around with it now a little. There's a 3K RAM expansion and a Cosmic Cruncher game cartridge with it (plus 2 books).

The noise channel sounds really weird! :o

How come not compatible? The most important peripherals can be (re)used for the C16: C1541, monitor, joystick (with a converter cable), datasette (again, with a converter cable).

Anyway I am getting the VIC for 20 euros... nomen ist omen ;-) If all goes well with a cartridge, too 8)

What's a VIC-20 worth these days?

I am about to buy a(nother) VIC-20 but not sure what a reasonable price could be... I can buy a C16 for as little as 15 euros but is this also true for a VIC? It is an older model, but a lot more were produced so I'd guess the price could be around 15-20 euros at maximum or am I wrong?
